Ran it, finished the 10K in 44:55. The course was measured wrong though I think, my GPS watch recorded it as 5.84 miles instead of 6.1 (of course it could be off some because of the tree cover, but a quarter of a mile is a big difference to just be a GPS error).

Nice race though. And it wasn't cold buddy, that was perfect running weather.

haha, well if you're going to make a statement like you "killed" my time, you should post your time. The male course record for the 10k is 32:57.... so what did you get? Sub 40 minute? I don't really train during the winter, I just saw this a week or two ago and thought I'd run it to get me excited about the Peachtree in July.

do not come on here bragging about times in a 10K especially if you do not break 40.
Rules about bragging... do not brag about your time in
5K unless you break 18:38
8K unless you break 32:00
10K unless you break 40:00

I do, but I live in South Carolina now. Sorry for not making the 4 hour drive to run a 10k.

I make an exception for the Krispy Kreme Challenge, though.

i ran it about 2 years ago.

it was real fun. i was in the running mood for a good year after that.

i did couple 5/10Ks

now im trying to get back into it.

my time wasnt great. i think i averaged 8:30 mile after stopping to tie my shoe and walking once before that rediculous uphill.

Shouldn't it be don't brag at all? (Unless you really need the validation of a bunch of people on the internet to feel good about yourself.) I mean, if you think about it competitively, there is only one winner, everyone else is a loser, who cares what your time is. If you think about it as competing against yourself, you're doing good if you made a PR, who cares what anyone else did.

synchrony, I was just busting your balls. anywhere up to 48 minutes is very good in my book.. most of my friends can't even run 8 minute miles. the course had to be measured VERY wrong though. even if you had shitty PDOP your gps watch had to be at least precise enough to pick up on that huge of a discrepency. I dont see how they could mess this up though since this isn't the first year it's been in regency.... they must have messed up the location of the turnarounds, that's the only thing I can figure. and noen, let me know whenever you want to race so I can shut your ass up.

^ Ok, no problem. I wouldn't care if you were making fun of me anyway, I did better than I did the last time I ran a 10k, so I'm happy. Your time was awesome, I hope I can do as well at the Peachtree, although with it being a good 20-30 degrees warmer it will be hard.

I only posted my time to illustrate that the course was poorly measured and I don't think I could have gotten that time on a true 10k without training. I normally try to finish strong, and I was waiting for there to be .25 miles left before I had my final burst of speed and then oh shit, I see the finish line within 100 ft and think wtf?

5K

There was no error in the length of the 5K course, but someone did let Dan Kahn compete.

The Duke University doctoral candidate is training for the U.S. Olympic Trials in November, and the Cary Road Race was a part of his regimen. The 5K was a tune-up before heading to the Penn Relays during the weekend of April 26 and the USA 25 km Championships in Grand Rapids, Mich., on May 12.

But a 14:42 tune-up?

Kahn broke the previous record of 15:57, held by Peter Ellis, and sent many onlookers into laughter and disbelief at the barely tired and hardly sweating Kahn.

I like to run competitively so that I can have a goal besides simply having fun. And no one enjoys running... the only thing I enjoy is being done with a run. But that's endorphins.

I very much enjoy running. I compete in damn near everything in my life, but it's amazing to just get out and run for an hour or two, not track my time or speed or distance and just let my mind wander.

yeah, sorry, but that's just wrong. Tons of people, believe it or not, actually enjoy going outside and running - not just for the endorphins or whatever, but actually enjoy the activity and the all around feeling. I used to be one of them, running nearly every day for 8 years (except for injuries). For several years, I truly loved it, and I was happiest when I was out on a run.
You can always get too much of a good thing, though, and I ended up burning myself out in college with too many miles and hard workouts, and ran for nearly a full year while not enjoying it at all, basically souring myself on it for several years to come.

but running is like any other activity that some people enjoy, but not others - playing basketball, throwing a baseball, knitting, playing video games, etc. It's just an activity that happens to be painful, frustrating, and extremely uncomfortable if you're not good at it, giving you the impression that people who do it a lot are feeling the same pain and frustration that you feel when you do it.
