Searched TWW for "avery close" and didn't find anything. It's right next door to where I am now, and from here it seems ok. I just wanted to know if anyone lived there and had any horror stories to tell me, or if it was awesome.

Considering purchasing a unit there since it appears it's a LITTLE LATE for me to recover my apartment here at Ivy Commons.

I heard that the management at Avery Close blows, but since we're purchasing we'll be bypassing that.

The management is pretty bad and I imagine you'd still have to deal with them about any issues, including parking.

honestly i've always held it in a lower regard than other apartments(and i live at KENSINGTON...)...looks shitty to me- looks like it doesnt really have any amenities that are good either...i got free internet, a nice ass pool, tennis courts, and a weight room

I'm on a lease at ivy commons and i have two weeks to find a roommate. At this point I don't think I'll find anyone I want to room with in that period of time, plus since this opportunity is available I think I'm going to take it. It'll be cheaper and it'll be much nicer for me.

I'll mention roaches to my dad.

[Edited on April 12, 2007 at 5:41 PM. Reason : The guy who was going to room with me bailed on me at 10:15 last night, I don't have enough time]

You're right, it's not impossible.

This option is cheaper and better though. Especially since I'll know the owner, haha.

Yeah, pretty much. So what were your complaints about Avery Close anyway? It looks newer than Ivy Commons. I know the amenities are a little sparse but the complex itself didn't look rancid as ass when I went by.

idk like i've never been inside of them, but i always figured they were like kensington as far as the people that live there(FOB's, etc.)- the gray and red sign always looked kinda shitty- i just always assumed they were old, run down, full of bugs, no extra anything(pool, internet, club house)

how much is it?- i pay 472/month at a like 800 squarefoot 1bedroom at kensington- favorite place i've ever lived and i've lived on crest, college inn, lake park, gorman crossings, wildwoods for a month, and now here

The place we're looking at is a 2br/2.5ba 1200sqft townhome.

Not sure how much it'll cost, we're not leasing it. Was just curious if the units themselves had a history of having flooding problems or heating issues or what.

I stayed there with a friend for a week. The floor creaked a lot and you could tell if someone was in the bathroom upstairs by the creaking noises.

I like to refer to Avery Close as Little India

i was going to rent an apt there once and spent a lot of time talking to the owner about the place (i forget his name, but he worked for CBC) anyway, the actual condos seem fine--there are a lot of investors that own multiple units and a lot of the renters are foreign couples/families. the worst thing is the parking--it's fucking god-awful and anyone that comes to see you will have to park on crest. wpm also sucks--they manage some of the rentals and also the hoa...from what the owner was saying, none of the people like them--and having rented from them i can attest to their suckage

I lived there for 2 years

Parking is by far the worst thing about the place. When I lived there, there were 5 guest spots for the whole place. and thats only after 5 pm.

The place are old, but still nice. It is little India

^ this guy summed it up the best. I never had problems with roaches and never heard of anyone else having problems. Also the management are really rude, cranky old ladies. I hated dealing with them.

If you can deal with the lack of amenities and guest parking everything else actually isn't too bad since it is probably the cheapest place on avent ferry.

i lived there for 1 year. The rooms are nice and big and the electric bill isn't bad......it's cool cause you have a sink outside of your bathroom (which is TINY). The parking sucks and the people at the office smell bad!

Haha, I appreciate your feedback.

So the parking didn't look bad when we rolled through there the other night. Is it just bad because you can't find a spot or just bad because you can't have any guests park out there very easily?

I know the amenities are a little sparse, but it has more than Ivy Commons (except for the fact that there's no W/D in the apartments themselves).

Decent, as long as you don't mind the scent of curry or plan on having guests park there.

I can attest to this one. If you live on the ground floor, it can get annoying when ppl flush toilet upstairs. I am not making this up: One time, a water pipe broke upstairs and we went through hell with the water dripping down into our dining area.. They took almost a week to fix that.

But I do like their floor plan (by far the best anywhere near campus in terms of area).

Beg to differ. Kensington's 3 bedroom apartments are quite big at around the same cost per room

it was a really convenient place to live when I was going to school, since it was close enough to walk to class. the parking situation sucked though. we rented from a private owner and not from the management. I heard that the general management there sucked, but the guy we rented from was a very reasonable guy.

Gave the condo a look tonight. It's one of the upper 2-floor units. Really nice inside, very clean.

You can tell some girls lived there. WAY nicer than my apartment at Ivy Commons. At least on the inside.

I do appreciate your all's feedback.

there are two assigned spaces per apartment and you must also display a permit. aside from that, there are only 5 or so "guest" spots (for the whole complex) which are really spots reserved for the office and they're only available after the office closes...the reason the parking lot looks empty is b/c a lot of people that live there don't have cars--but pretty much anyone that comes to see you will have to park on crest and hoof it
