So I'll pay someone here $100 for labor to change my brake pads, plus however much it costs for you to get the brake pads (prob. around $45 for the best kind). I got the brake pads changed by a friend like 3 or 4 months ago, but they immediately started squeaking again...it's weird...so I don't know if they're not cleaned right or what. I don't know much about brakes...but I do know that you NEED to.I have a 2001 Toyota Rav4 by the way. anyone want the job? You'd have to do it this weekend though b/c that's when I can pay you. PM me or call me 210-685-8719 or email me @ spookyjess@gmail.com

^^ changing them this soon may just be a waste of your money. Many newish brakes will squeal/squeak due to their composition. We have been trained to believe that this means there is something wrong, but often it's just them doing their job. Some brakes are more prone to squeaking than others, and I'm sure the guys here can explain far more than I can, but if it is just the type of brake that is squeaking you could simply purchase new pads that are less squeak prone (typically softer pads or pads with a higher Carbon content **note: you'll get more brake dust with these! but they typically last longer**). Some people suggest using copper grease (*not on the disk side!*) to lessen squeaking. point of my long ass, not so helpful post... since you changed them 3-4 months ago they should still be more than fine (unless you've driven atleast 20k in that amount of time!). make sure they were installed properly & see what type of pads were installed before you start trying to get someone to replace them for $texas![Edited on April 12, 2007 at 2:32 AM. sounds like your friend probably used pads with the wrong compound. it can be normal to get a squeak here and there from discs, but nothing on a regular basis.who's to know what sort of shape the rotors are in either.

there's also anti-squeal junk he could have used, but the composition of the pads is important too

seriously, $100? How much do shops actually charge for that? I don't think I've ever charged more than like $30-40 to change someone's pads.

Right now, if you want to find a deal it's $80 per axle if you take it in. So me paying $100 to do what they would do is me getting a deal. Also, So far I have a guy that is willing to take a look at them so I'll update this after Sunday I guess and if this falls through I'll be contacting the first person who was interested and go from there. Thanks for the responses!
