autoblog:"Fabled porsche über-tuner Ruf, the house of mad genius that brought us enthusiast miracles such as the legendary CTR "Yellow Bird," appears ready to knock everyone's socks off once again. This time, the wow factor is attached to the company's new CTR3, a Cayman-based supercar that makes its debut today in Bahrain, where is likely no shortage of individuals able to pony up the car's projected $300,000 price tag.Under its aluminum and carbon-fiber skin, which makes the CTR3 look like something that would have appeared right at home dueling the likes of the Toyota GT-ONE, Porsche 911 GT1, and McLaren F1 in LeMans races past, the new RUF has the heart of its bigger and equally insane brother, the 911 RT12. Its 3.8L twin-turbocharged six delivers 700 horsepower and 656 lb-ft of torque, all of which is sent rearward via a rumored seven-speed sequential gearbox. Top speed? Figure around 224 mph. Can an assault on the Nürburgring by this earthbound cruise missile be far off?"http://www.autoblog.com/2007/04/11/ruf-set-to-launch-cayman-based-ctr3-supercar/

I like the openings on the inside of the rear fenders. Not sure how functional they are but they're very Le Mans prototype esque.

I think the whole car looks awesome, but I'd like to see a cleaner back windshield, one you could actually see out of of. maybe just get rid of the stuff on the side

AUTOBLOG update... no, I really do go to other sites, I just keep checking there first, I guess:"Full official specs, new photos of the RUF CTR 3Posted Apr 12th 2007 8:50PM by Alex NunezFiled under: Sports/GTs, Euro, SupercarsClick image for an updated photo galleryFirst things first: as was widely reported (including here) the RUF CTR 3 is not derived from the Porsche Cayman. That makes it no less amazing, as the technical data pasted after the jump bears out. The CTR 3's bodywork is a RUF creation in aluminum and carbon fiber, and the earlier reports stating that the car is Cayman-based were probably a result of the automaker's use of the small Porsche coupe's taillamps. That's where it ends, however. The 3,746cc twin-turbocharged flat six produces 700 horsepower and over 656 lb-ft of torque, which, according to RUF, enables the CTR3 to run from zero to 62 mph in 3.2 seconds and max out at 235 mph. Shifts come courtesy of a six-speed sequential manual gearbox. The tall shifter is capped with a metal knob and features prominently in the Ruf's leather-lined cabin. 15" 6-piston ceramic-composite brakes fore and aft handle the task of stopping this rocketship. The brakes are tucked behind a set five-spoke wheels sized 19" in front and 20" in back. As much a supercar as the Enzo, Carrera GT, and SLR McLaren, the CTR 3 is priced accordingly at €380,000 plus VAT. That's over $510,000 US dollars at the current exchange rate, and for the buyers who would consider adding one to their collections, it's probably worth every single penny.[Source: RUF]Gallery: RUF CTR 3RUF CTR 3 Technical dataBodyBody build in steel, aluminium and kevlar-carbon. lol. I'm a dummy.jalopnik is saying the ctr3 is really based on the 911, which seems like a bizarre choice when you consider that the boxster is a perfectly good place to start when you'd like to build a mid-engine super-porsche since they already baked in 2 of those three things, but this pic:really shows the tube chassis, and some detail elements do suggest 911, like the interior (remember, boxsters and caymans have round vents, as if it mattered), and the headlights are fully round like a 997... again, doesn't matter, but wouldn't make sense to add them if you started with a boxster/cayman and those elements were already paid for... and weren't from the 911... (not that this is exactly a carefully budgeted build...)[Edited on April 13, 2007 at 4:12 PM. Reason : oops... image linking to jalopnik is weird]

^ actually, yeah, this made me think.the front end is completely 911 GT3, but i was fooled by the pushed down squatted body, which made it look like it was based on the cayman.see these pics:http://www.rsportscars.com/foto/11/rufctr307_01.jpghttp://www.rsportscars.com/foto/03/porschegt307_12.jpgbtw, how about these two:http://www.rsportscars.com/eng/cars/911_alzen.asphttp://www.rsportscars.com/eng/cars/sportec_spr1.asp2007 Porsche 911 Turbo Mission 400 Plus by Jurgen Alzen Motorsport3.6 litre TT1054 hp760 lb-ft> 250 mph (wants to break the 400 kph mark)2006 Porsche Sportec SPR13.6 litre TT802 hp656 lb-ft0-60 mph in 2.9 sec> 236 mph

^sidenote:doubling and tripling a car's power makes my eyes roll a little. it HAS to be at the expense of cost, tractability, reliability, composure, grip, economy (and hence how often you can drive it!) and life expectancy.... I respect the ruf for being an (overpriced) but holistic re-porsche-ing in a way the other two really aren't... I recently got a ride in a 997 turbo in greensboro, and all I can say is that there is really a rapidly decreasing margin of return on performance much beyond that much power without significant changes to the chassis of the car and with massive weight reduction... with the variable vane turbos, it had NO lag, and it was all the 4wd could take just to keep pointed in a straight line (the owner may have just been fooling around more than he should have). I can't even imagine how undriveable a (600hp stock) 2008 Viper is going to be.deep down, when I first saw that ctr3, I think I wanted it to have like 450 hp but weigh around 2600-2700 lbs. like that's any kind of conservative maximum! but certainly more interesting than 700 hp and 3200. Also, with maximum useful power being accessed by a 70k 'vette now, where is ferrari supposed to live without killing its drivers/writing off its most ridiculous supercars (save the enzos)?anyone here seen the bmw m-coupe with the carbon widebody? now that's a mod I could really get into. 343 hp is more than enough when you're taking an already fast car and dropping 400 600 lbs!http://www.tcklineracing.com[Edited on April 13, 2007 at 6:06 PM.
