The US National Guard being involved in a nation-building exercise overseas.

Count me out as a fan. This is obsurd. More obsurd is Congress completely punting their responsibility to formally declare war, and then fund this clusterfuck with "emergency appropriations" instead of putting the spending in the budget proper. After Korea, Vietnam, and any number of smaller dustups, I would have hoped that we would have learned our lesson by now.

I know this is a wacky idea, but I'm sorta fond of the notion of actually following the US Constitution in these sorts of matters.

Before I saw that article I never would have guessed that signing up for the National Guard could have landed me in Iraq. Thank goodness I wasn't in the brickyard today or I might have signed up.

I'm slightly biased, but I thought Korea actually worked out pretty well.

They get sent over, too.

Someone's gotta look out for arms shipments.

Chairborne Rangers ftw.

There's no way I'd want to be on a patrol boat all day.

i'm telling you guys, airforce

and i'm not talking about fighter pilots

i'm talking about the other jobs

my cousin was stationed in south korea

he said he would sit inside the cafeteria and look out over the fields where the soldiers and marines slept in the mud in tents and ate their mre's (which i happen to think are delicious)

yea, in jrotc (air force) our instructor was a retired master sergeant and he was a bomb builder or did something with bombs, and he said where he was stationed during desert storm he got to sleep in an air conditioned building and work in AC most of the day and eat in a real cafeteria and get a good breaks while he could "look out of my air conditioned window and see the tent city where all the jarheads were sleeping in the 100 degree heat and eating mres"
