I just got a new laptop from HP (dv6000t) and I have a high pitch noise coming from around the center of the laptop...its def. an electrical noise, so not from the speakers. Mine does the same thing. I have yet to figure out what it is, but I suppose its normal.

call HP support?

ive tried calling support, but they had me re-install the sound driver and some other things that i knew would not fix the problem...i am thinking about returning it for a new one...but if this problem is constant with these laptops, im just going to return. im trying to figure out if this is an HP problem, or if other core 2 duo laptops have the same problem.

it could be a loose capacitor on the mobo; they typically will emit a high pitch whine when not correctly mounted/installed.

I am not sure if its something with the Core 2's or just HP Core 2's. On my dv6000, the noise isn't as noticeable as it was when I first got it. I have to hold my ear right up to the keyboard to hear it now.

just called hp again...they're just going to send me a new one...hopefully the new one wont have the same problem.

mine does that when running on battery sometimes. I don't think it is any big deal and it is definitely not something HP tech support is going to be able to help you with

it may be the touchpad (mouse)go to a webpage where you can scroll down. use the "scroll" feature on the right side of the touchpad to scroll the page down. while you do this, listen to the whining...if it fades or goes away while you are scrolling on the touchpad, then it is the touchpad...mine makes a very very very faint noise, but it may be the noise you are talking about
