...to cook, not to have as a pet.

Are there any butcher shops or grocers in the area that would carry fresh farmed rabbit (are they called coneys when you eat 'em)? I wanted to make something special for an Easter dinner, although it might have to wait until tomorrow.

I tried Grand Asia Market, and they have a lot of ...different... meats, but not rabbit.

Hmm... called the Fresh Market in Cameron Village. I think they're closed for Easter.

I was actually at the Farmers Market earlier and saw a big "WE HAVE RABBIT" sign by the meat dealer.

There is a place in the building with all the jellies & crafts in the Farmer's Market that sells rabbits. You can also sometimes get them from Conti's Italian Market or Whole Foods (frozen only).

Tastes like chicken.

Well, seriously, it's like a denser, leaner chicken breast. The flavor is a little different but not noticeably so. It's very low in fat and high in protein. Young rabbits are generally fried but older ones need to be stewed or else the meat can be tough. It's common in French and Italian country cooking, as they are cheap, versatile and easy to raise. Unfortunately you won't see them priced cheaply stateside.

I'm going to pick up a pair to start a little meat factory in the backyard. Rabbits are some tasty, tasty critters.

New Zealand bunnies FTW.
