I seriously thought Barnes would give Kentucky more consideration than Gillispie, but i was completely wrong. Barnes shot them down quickly and it looks like a Texas guy will actually leave the great state.
4/6/2007 9:54:25 AM
great hire imo. Gillispie is awesome.
4/6/2007 10:00:24 AM
wow, Big12 has lost two big name coaches in two days. Bill Self is smiling right about now
4/6/2007 10:16:41 AM
but you know rick barnes is happy to see him go though
4/6/2007 10:30:08 AM
You don't turn down Kentucky when you coach at Texas A & M. Gillespie went from the bottom to the top in about 5 seasons, takes most coaches twice as long. Although i have to wonder why Rick banres likes Texas so much, makes him turning down Lil ole NC State not so noticeable now.
4/6/2007 10:42:00 AM
BARNES LIKES TEXAS BECAUSE THE FOOTBALL PROGRAM MAKES $$$ SO WHEN ALL THE BASKETBALL SCHOOLS WHO LOSE THEIR COACH THROW BIG BUCKS AT HIM UT CAN ALWAYS MATCH ANY OF THEIR OFFERS
4/6/2007 11:08:03 AM
^Whenever I read one of your posts I picture a semi-retarded kid typing out whatever pops into his confused little brain
4/6/2007 11:11:02 AM
^^, At some point, Barnes is going to want to win a national championship. Texas is certainly a good school with a great opportunity to do so, but it's not Kentucky, Uk has rabid fans, rabid alumni, and even a rabid faculty that wants titles every year. Kentucky needs to get back to recruiting the top guys, and with Barnes I bet they could have done so. Gillespie will also get them where they need to be. And with money, Kentucky will throw out whatever needs to be done, regardless of weather a basketball coach is currently at a football school generating mega revenue.
4/6/2007 11:21:51 AM
barnes just isn't a very good coach. it pains me to say this, but he's like roy williams lite: stud recruiter but lacking in game management. kentucky is much better served going with gillespie
4/6/2007 11:27:56 AM
BARNES CAN WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP IN TEXAS....LOOK AT FLORIDA....THEY CAN'T EVEN FILL THEIR ARENA DURING THE REGULAR SEASON......SURE TEXAS DOESN'T HAVE THE FOLLOWING KENTUCKY DOES BUT SHIT IF YOU CAN GET PAID THE SAME AND HAVE THE SAME CHANCE TO WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP AND NOT HAVE THE PRESSURE THEN WHY WOULD YOU LEAVE...I THINK GILLISPIE LEAVING WAS A GOOD MOVE....THERE IS NO CHANCE TO WIN IT ALL AT A&M....THEIR IS WAY TOO MUCH SAUSAGE AT THAT SCHOOL (BAD FOR RECRUITING)....HE WILL BRING KENTUCKY BACK TO ITS USUAL DOMINACE IN TWO YEARS
4/6/2007 11:32:08 AM
woaaaaaaaaaah
4/6/2007 11:34:38 AM
4/6/2007 11:36:05 AM
I can't imagine that Kentucky nation is overly pleased with this hire... I mean, Gillispie has barely proven himself.
4/6/2007 11:37:30 AM
On the contrary, I'd say Gillespie has done an absolutely stellar job at A&M.His teams play great ball, and I think he'll do well.
4/6/2007 11:42:26 AM
^ are you kidding, they are jumping up and down that they got their Billy.http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=48#S=48&F=1030
4/6/2007 11:42:51 AM
I CAN ASSURE YOU KENTUCKY FANS ARE CHEERING.....HOW CAN YOU SAY GILLISPIE HASN'T PROVED HIMSELF....BEFORE GILLISPIE A&M WAS A LAUGHING STOCK

gillispie can coach, straight up. a real shame for a&m, though.
4/7/2007 11:17:28 AM
4/7/2007 11:22:20 AM
bad hire.making a bad team good is different from making a good team great.
4/7/2007 1:19:14 PM
^Your opinion means very little in this section now Dukie. He is the best available coach out there.Who should they have hired, your boy Wojo?

4/7/2007 4:54:50 PM
that is the dumbest thing i have ever heard. it is FLORIDA...there are people everywhere with a vast number of them Gator fans. Being far from other cities sure hurts the attendance at the Big 12 schools too...
4/7/2007 5:23:10 PM
uf is the unc of florida
4/7/2007 6:24:11 PM
^^ Perhaps you've never been through that part of Florida, but it's quite rural. Gainesville is geographically isolated...there isn't another decent-sized city for an hour and a half in any direction.Combine State and Carolina into a 50,000-student enormity, and put the campus in Asheville, Greenville, or Wilmington, and you have a pretty good comparison.
4/7/2007 7:17:26 PM
4/8/2007 12:43:53 AM
i guess my pt was just that uf is a wal-mart school so they have plenty of fans
4/8/2007 1:01:38 AM
oh i hear ya, and i was just thinking out loud (or on computer) once that point came across me
4/8/2007 2:32:28 AM
^^^ I think Michigan State is a better basketball school than Michigan, at least for the past decade. Also, Arizona state has always sucked, I would put FSU way above them, in both sports. They are a bigger perennial football power than Florida, and occasionally field good basketball teams.
4/8/2007 4:47:33 AM
Texas A&M, or texas tech, could be considered 'state' type schools in a way, because they have to deal with Texas
4/8/2007 5:15:12 AM
miss statewash staterutgerspenn statemore things i noticed is that the ustate is usually in a college town and usually a liberal school while the STATE university is usually in the capital[Edited on April 8, 2007 at 5:27 AM. Reason : ^then u could throw in ucla, unlv, virginiatech, georgiatech, siu,is purdue public?]
4/8/2007 5:23:11 AM
Penn State doesn't count because Penn is private, so it's top dog.Rutgers doesn't count because it's the oldest and most prestigious public university in the state.Nither Mississippi State or Ole Miss have ever been any good at anything.Washinton State is a pretty good one.
4/8/2007 5:32:38 AM
what other school does rutgers have to deal with in NJ?duke? i meanyou could say TCNJ or something, but thats even more laughable
4/8/2007 9:38:33 AM
^ Duke is private so it doesn't count.
4/8/2007 5:12:41 PM
if you think carolina fans suck are douchebags, you've never met anyone from uvathey don't have the wal-mart element but anyone who has attended 'mr. jefferson's university' considers themselves head and shoulders above everyone else[Edited on April 8, 2007 at 5:19 PM. Reason : ]
