its like this, when we are old we will see these at car shows and talk about who we knew who had one or how we could have gotten one way back when. like geezers go on about hemi cudas and superbirds now.
3/31/2007 11:33:11 PM
good cars, but they have a number of problems... the 03's especially have a shitty clutch and pressure plate, throttle can get stuck (recall for that), and other things like rear end noise. They have forged internals but the pistons are still the weak link.on the other hand a friend of mine made 427rwhp and 390torque with a cone filter and a catback... but he's made a number of warranty claims on his 03, although he is a bit of a hypochondriac
4/1/2007 12:16:46 AM
one of my favorites.had the chance to drive one a few years back..trying to haggle with a friend to pick up a cobra.but i doubt its happening.
4/1/2007 1:35:02 AM
don't for get the valve probs they had too but otherwise one of the few motors that can give a 2jz-gte a run for its money in the over engineered category btw who keeps a stock clutch ?
4/1/2007 1:42:58 AM
king cobrai was trying to trade my 97 civic for a 97 cobra.makin deals here people[Edited on April 1, 2007 at 8:48 AM. Reason : ]

had a black 03 convertible.made 500 whp with pulley, filter, and cat back.IRS is a piece of shit for straight line pulls.camaro SS's with a few bolt ons still beat me.corvettes still beat me.TransAms still beat me.Its too damn heavy and has valve problems. Clutch sucked. Had to replace the pressure plates.in the end it doesnt matter because I wrapped it around a tree. make sure you can handle the power because obviously, I sure as hell couldn't.
4/1/2007 11:15:34 AM
Had one for 2.5 years, not a reliable car. Half of the time was spent in the dealership getting the clutch and rear end fixed, 3 times because of a shitty throw out bearing design which in the end damaged the rest of the clutch pack. One time, the car stalled on me at 110mph after hiting a slight bump on the road. No power brakes or steering for a second until the engine got started again because of the engine being off, not good it this happened in the twisties.
4/1/2007 1:02:39 PM
.... or maybe you should learn how to shift a little niceri know they don't have the best clutch in the world but dude....
4/1/2007 3:17:26 PM
no, really, the clutches do suck on these. I have never powershifted nor do I rest my foot on the clutch, maybe a few burnouts a year but that's it. Here's a link to the stock clutch life and TOB problems.http://www.svtperformance.com/forums/showthread.php?t=108562TOB problemshttp://www.svtperformance.com/forums/showthread.php?t=51284

fast piece of shit
4/1/2007 9:33:50 PM
my cousin has a stock 04 cobrawe took it to rockingham a couple weeks ago and it ran a 12.6he had problems on a few of the runs when the tranny heated up, couldn't get it into gear quick enough and missed shifts, probably related to the clutch problemsit's about to become the shop car at the place he works......the supercharger is coming off and they are puting on twin turbosthe shop is going to fab a plate to allow the stock cobra supercharger to bolt up to the other mustangs for the aftermarket
4/1/2007 10:05:59 PM
4/1/2007 10:24:57 PM
it would be fun but i'm not too much of a fan of shit-tons of power and a drop topi think i'm going to get a 4 door wrangler for my convertible or cage and remove the roof from my xj.and find something else for my balls out fast car
4/1/2007 10:34:54 PM
the last gen body style, like the 03 style...was the only 6 speed the cobra R??i took a co-workers cobra out for a drive. and i swear there was a 6th speed.. people say it must have been a cobra R, but i know it wasnt an R.it had aftermarket pulleys (from what the guy said) so i dont know if he put the money down and got a 6spd tranny.hmmmmmmmmmmm
4/1/2007 10:35:02 PM
supercharged cobras have t-56's too.(6-speed)
4/1/2007 10:35:51 PM
03/04's have a t56 6 speed.[Edited on April 1, 2007 at 10:37 PM. Reason : ^beat me...]
4/1/2007 10:36:47 PM
oh, ok well that makes more sense.i swore it was 6 speed. but everyone was telling me only the cobra R had 6spd.crazy nigs
4/1/2007 10:40:14 PM
Im in love with these, you can just slap some simple bolt ons up there and get ridiculous gains.
4/2/2007 1:07:56 AM
^but, like pointed out above, despite the easy gains, not actually that dominant on the road.
4/4/2007 12:50:31 AM
the only place they seem to be a bit weak is racing from a highway role. which is mostly gay anyway, especially if you take it seriously. from a dig and through the twisties they appear to be pretty competetive. LSx cars seem to give them the most trouble, but those motors are just amazing in and of themselves so that's not surprising.at least they're not like supras, 800whp and 12's, lol.
4/4/2007 12:59:49 AM
^ggBUT DON'T MESS WITH IT FROM A ROLLhahah supras take a ton of suspension work and a gm transmission to be fast in the 1/4.and yes i know there are a couple suicide bombers that have flat foot shifted their way into single digits.[Edited on April 4, 2007 at 8:12 AM. Reason : .]
4/4/2007 8:10:56 AM
don't get a vert for the twistiesmy friend took his to the dragon and the chassis flexed so bad that the hood popped up (i mean it didn't literally fly up but you know what i mean).they also wheelhop viciously on stock tires. I've driven it a couple times. 1st gear is shitty until you get stickier tires
4/4/2007 11:00:25 AM
my buddy had one. fun car
4/4/2007 11:28:11 AM
^^valid point. not an issue to me personally though, remedying that is simple.
4/4/2007 1:44:00 PM
Only one I've seen in action at an autox blew the rear end of his tranny. I'm pretty sure he was power shifting though Not exactly an autox car anyway, lol.
4/4/2007 1:50:41 PM
yeah, i won't be racing around any cones in a parking lot.
4/4/2007 2:11:48 PM
.... the back end of that transmission is the same one in a viper.
4/4/2007 4:32:24 PM
c/a/i exhaust, chip, pulley 500+ whp
4/4/2007 7:53:28 PM
^as usual, you make no sense.for the supra comments.http://videos.streetfire.net/video/6e19fad5-ecb2-4ccb-9ae8-980a003c1f4c.htm
4/4/2007 8:57:19 PM
^^ what?
4/4/2007 9:09:15 PM
^^^ yeah how bout you just shut up.once again though..... beltless boost is the way to go.btw there is a dirty C6 in the last run too[Edited on April 4, 2007 at 9:39 PM. Reason : .]
4/4/2007 9:36:08 PM
red light like a motherfucker
4/4/2007 9:43:07 PM
i believe that hpp car has been 9's in the 1/4. at least deep 10's i know for sure launching it really easy.the new c6's are nasty... a dude on corvette forum has a c6 z06 well into the 10's with drag radials ONLY! further proof of how amazing the LSx motors are.[Edited on April 4, 2007 at 9:48 PM. Reason : .]
4/4/2007 9:48:23 PM
yeah.... black magic.. i don't trust them 1 bithahahhanahh but seriously though... its a 7 liter motor in a car with alot of aluminum and some carbon fiber.it should be pretty quickto be honest my favorite motor i've seen was built by vp performance it was a low comp 4 cam big bore mod motor (302 mod) and mother fucker put down 700hp on the dyno BEFORE THE TURBOS (at 8700 rpm)
4/4/2007 9:52:54 PM
yeah but honestly, stock for stock OR mod for mod, i'd MUCH MUCH MUCH rather rock a 94+ supra TT than ANY mustang post muscle car era. not because of racing or what have you, but damn those supras look fucking sweet (and yes i'm biased cause i owned a '90 7m-gte and always dreamed of a 2jz-gte )
4/4/2007 9:54:35 PM
no offense but your supra looks like shit..i'd rather have a clean fox body notch backbut i agree mkivs look way better than any mustang...the newest gen is the closest but still the mkiv looks good and is aerodynamic.something no mustang has ever been.but i'm also not paying 25k for an almost 15 year old car.]
4/4/2007 9:59:12 PM
yeah, the mkivs do look nice and the 2jz is an impressive engine despite the odd high hp/low results phenomenon. imo, the styling is getting aged and really showing it's 90's heritage though. i don're really care about looks much though. why else would i be considering this car.
4/4/2007 11:10:22 PM
4/4/2007 11:49:55 PM
quit being cheap and buy an 08
4/5/2007 2:14:47 AM
i didn't mean his car but that model year imho i can't stand.i hate the z cars of the same gen.And bbr you're right mad props to chev on some how having an emissions legal racing motor that this is sick-nasty.
4/5/2007 7:08:01 AM
4/5/2007 7:45:03 AM
huh like the turbo? what for?
4/5/2007 8:00:58 AM
4/5/2007 9:18:14 AM
I know several people with modded out Supras. As in built motors, single turbos, crazy fuels systems, and other shit.Doesn't really affect the value of the car. Clean, tastefully modded (most Supra owners demonstrate good taste, a relative rarity in the import crowd) ones usually bring at least as much as nice stockers. As for the 03 Cobra? The only reason they really fall short of being awesome is the fact that they weigh a minimum of 3700 lbs. You can make awesome power with them though, and as long as the tune is good and you don't lean on them too hard all the time, they are pretty durable. If you just want a fast, fun, nice looking 500hp street car, buy one and do a chip, pulley, maybe long tube headers/exhaust, and a tune. You'll be pleased.
4/5/2007 11:08:08 AM
ford sucks please be enough to earn me an egg
4/5/2007 2:09:19 PM
I dislike ford but not enough to deny that these are cool cars.
4/5/2007 9:30:21 PM
my buddy is selling his totally mint, pristine unmolested 03 cobra soon, 20k miles and he already has an offer for $30k...
4/5/2007 9:52:07 PM
thats cooli'm looking at a 95 r code for 23 though
4/5/2007 11:18:38 PM
I approve.
