I know I'm probably gonna get the usual "go to the doctor" thing - and I'm going next week, but I was wondering I'm worrying too much about something so simple?

I have had back pain for probably 2 years now, all lower, near my butt and probably near my spine. I can't sit in any kind of hard chair, I have to stand up. Most chairs I sit in are reclined at about a 60 degree angle, and I have some comfort. I can't sit against a wall, it's so friggin painful. And the worse part is, you'd figure lying down would be comfortable, but sometimes it makes it worse. So I used my husband's TENS machine a few times, and it helped it, but it comes back. Now I have a lot of numbness in the bottom of my back when I get out of a chair, which is kinda weird. Working out doesn't hurt my back, lifting really doesn't either. It's just when I'm still.

So is this in my mind? Does it seem like a nerve problem or more muscle pain? I don't want to be on pain medicine or muscle relaxers, I'm hoping some kind of shot can help it. I'm just tired of dealing with it

/blog :-)

could be a pinched nerve

could be that your boobs are too big

could be that you're out of shape

could be an orthopedic problem

talk to a doctor.

wear sandals all the time?

Are you overweight?

Any past injuries from sports?

Hows the arch on your feet? Flat footed people have trouble with lower back pains.

If you answered yes or have flat feet.. then one of them is the cause of your back problems.

I wear flip flops EVERY day of my life, but I have a high arch
I'm not really overweight, definetly not skinny either (nor do I want to be) -I'm just a really large girl, 6'0" and 190 lbs, I'm VERY big boned, wear size 13 shoes :-p
No injuries though, but I love my flops

I wear tennis shoes when I'm in the gym - I usually go 4 times a week - I just don't like wearing them when I'm not working out because I can't find women's shoes that are comfortable in my size - like I said, when I work out my back doesn't hurt at all, but sitting is horrible

Its the flip flops. Stop wearing them. Wear tennis shoes with cushions. Exercise a bit more to rebuild your back muscles.

Im not sure if this is true, but trying sleeping on your stomach... I may be completely wrong about this one but I think I heard someone say something about this

its possible if you overwork your abs and never work your lower back muscles, the pulling tension created by the abs can cause pain in the lower back

but based on your posts, i dont think this is so

go to an Accupuncturist. i'm serious. my husband has had back pain on the lower right side of his back for years... he went to an accupuncturist just for a consultation. she put some needles in various places, and his back pain was gone for the next few days. you have to go with some frequency initially, but then just once every 6 months for a couple of years, then you should be set for the next 10.

taking pain meds is not the way to go.. you build up a tolerance, and the problem escalates into something else. you may need to be looked at for scoliosis as well.

i've seen chinese medicine work wonders for many people.

^ how much does it usually cost for an accupuncturist? I know my insurance wont cover it because I've asked, and I wouldn't mind it at all, I kinda like needles :-)

I don't want to be on meds for my pain, thats why I was kinda hoping like a simple cortisone shot or something would help it, but I don't know how all that works with your back like it does with your knee, so yeah thats a pretty good idea

he had the free consultation, and at this dr., his next appointment was about $80, the next $120, then they went down to about $60 for "maintenance" visits.
