Damn, never realized just how big he is... (other than the fact that his nickname is "Tank")
3/28/2007 10:41:18 AM
looking at that picture frightens me.
3/28/2007 10:42:11 AM

3/28/2007 10:43:42 AM
how in the hell does someone manage to bench more than they squat?
3/28/2007 10:51:39 AM
that is a big boy
3/28/2007 10:54:00 AM
^^easy..just look at his fucking cannon arms lol
3/28/2007 10:55:40 AM
that squat is rather low but the rest of that is just silly ...
3/28/2007 10:56:05 AM
I could incline more than I could bench or squatI bet his incline is up there too because of his shoulders (most lineman are similar)[Edited on March 28, 2007 at 11:02 AM. Reason : .]
3/28/2007 11:02:10 AM
There are some guys who bench more than they squat because their upper body is so big it makes the bench rep that much easier (smaller range of motion). With a squat, you still have to go parallel and for big guys it can be hard to get that low and back up.Also Levar Fisher benched 555 when he was at State...
3/28/2007 11:20:09 AM
he is an absolute beast.
3/28/2007 11:37:23 AM
^^ right, plus he has to lift his own massive upperbody... that's probably alot of self-weight[Edited on March 28, 2007 at 11:38 AM. Reason : carrot]

from what i've heard, while chuck was here, it's hard to believe any of those bench numbers. At least the ones during the "Walk(or was it Day?) of Champions". I heard the weights were less than advertised to create buzz and put on a good show.[Edited on March 28, 2007 at 11:41 AM. Reason : .]
3/28/2007 11:40:56 AM
^ No, I think you're right with Day of Champions. Walk of Champions doesn't include weight lifting
3/28/2007 11:42:26 AM
that comment about having a large upper body helping your bench Range of Motion is just bullshit. look how long his arms are. This isn't some 5'-7" midget bodybuilder. his bench number is very impressive, and it's definitely because of good training. however, bench strength won't bail your ass out when you don't have the leg strength to back it up.all of these comments are just excuses for why he doesn't put emphasis on leg training. he's going to get bullied around in the NFL if he doesn't beef up his legs with a quickness.
3/28/2007 11:45:20 AM
that mothafucka is scary
3/28/2007 11:52:05 AM
he better be able to bench 500+that seemed like one thing Amato could teach...how to build up your pecs

3/28/2007 1:05:43 PM
Shit...Philip could bench 400 - that's beastly for a QB

3/28/2007 1:15:35 PM
3/28/2007 2:07:39 PM
could be a typo - maybe they meant to put 600.[Edited on March 28, 2007 at 2:15 PM. Reason : ertwertrt]
3/28/2007 2:10:52 PM
it said in the article that he had a slight hamstring problem at the combine, maybe that had something to do with his relatively low squat
3/28/2007 2:33:48 PM
^ that would have to. I did 650 in high school and I am NO WHERE near tank's size....
3/28/2007 3:21:07 PM
haha damn he got a low ass squat
3/28/2007 3:22:15 PM

He's a really nice guy.The few times I've gotten to shake his hand his has absolutely engulfed mine.
3/28/2007 4:12:26 PM
It's easy to bench more then you squat you bounce it off your chest with three of your boys deadlifting it off you.
3/28/2007 4:19:17 PM
3/28/2007 4:21:23 PM
The squat will make you faster and more agile.
3/28/2007 4:22:41 PM
Not always.
3/28/2007 4:23:13 PM
Shit guys, let it go. I good squat certainly helps one's strength, agility, football skill, etc. It is also one of a few factors that play in to it. If you can squat 700 lbs but have two fucking left feet and a 300 lb bench, I can't imagine you'll be a probowler. However, if you've got great footwork and only a 300 lb squat, you aren't making it very far either.
3/28/2007 4:34:53 PM
3/28/2007 4:41:20 PM
restricted shut the fuck upi gaurantee that while his squat is average, he can bring that shit 4 quarters of football and he has good hands to where the fucker aint gotta bullrush the o lineman head on all the damn time like u seem to think soi know cuz i payed with him, he got tiny lil legs too we always got on him for that, hes got what he needs to succeed man, go show us how tough you are and WIN THE COMBINE(hes gotten bigger since when he was here, obviously lol)theres a diff between being a stiffneck powerlifter and being a fluid athlete[Edited on March 28, 2007 at 5:31 PM. espn insider has him going early second round but knocks on him by bringing up his off field problems, and the fact that he is an idiot
3/28/2007 5:30:45 PM
3/28/2007 5:50:43 PM
If the bench press wasn't the weightlifter's exercise equivalency of penis envy noone would care.Besides, some people for whatever reason are better at certain exercises. The fact that his front delts and tris are huge might have something to do with it.
3/28/2007 5:58:07 PM
^^^^ I'm knocking his ability to play football douchebag, I'm knocking the inflated numbers that college programs put out. Its all a contest to see who guys are the strongest instead of teaching players the correct way to lift, which is way more beneficial then saying someone can squat 700.[Edited on March 28, 2007 at 6:50 PM. there's been talks on some rams boards that they wouldn't mind trading down from their 13th pick to get tank. this is if okoye is gone (which he probably will be), and the rams need the extra pick too.the chiefs are also reportedly very interested in tank. there have been a couple of mock drafts that have them taking tank at #23 (if okoye and branch are gone). carl peterson, the chiefs' president, ceo, and gm, was at one of the pro days to look at tank. their d-line coach, kumrie, had hands-on workout with tank.http://tinyurl.com/2mko4sfinally, there's talks in the jets and buccaneers crowds about taking tank in the first. and keep in mind that alot of teams are cooling on alan branch, because of his character issues. tank had his run in with the cop and spitting on the southern miss player, but i don't think anyone's really concerned about his character.[Edited on March 28, 2007 at 11:49 PM.
