Still one of my favorite bands to this day. Not typical of what I would normally listen to either most would say. But there was something about them that I loved, they were just FUN, and each album really had its own personality.Another one of my notorious favorite bands I never got to see live . But hey at least I can soon scratch the pumpkins off my list From picking up their 1996 woodson EP shortly after its release to missing their 2005 farewell tour, heres to one of the most fun and nostalgic bands I still listen to. Hopefully there are some other fans out there..

LAST NIGHT ON THE MASS PIKEEEE I FELL IN LOVE WITH YOU!i've been a GuK fan for so many years and was very lucky to see them live at Cats Cradle in 2004. It was a great show, can't remember who opened for them, but they played a great set. One of my best college memories cause i went with a cute little blonde who loved them just as much as me.
3/27/2007 8:52:10 PM
I think they were there with Recover and Rocky something, that was an awesome show ]

and rich, yea. the very early stuff is probably my favorite. The EPs, and four minute mile. But then again something to write home about was a great album as well. on a wire has its own place in their disco for sure but it doesnt have the classic guk sound. and then guilt show was definitely about the only album or EP theyve ever put out that i dont love from start to finish.
3/27/2007 9:41:29 PM
Hell yes, I love all Get Up Kids; I probably didn't listen to their last CD too much though. Can listen to their live CD on repeat and their EPs as well. I got to see them with Thrice at Cat's Cradle in what was probably their last tour.

late 90's. Go! Studios @ Chapel Hill. Pouring Rain outside. One of the best show i've seen.
3/27/2007 10:09:28 PM
oh man, highschool days...4 minute mile/something to write home about/red letter day are all time favorites...never saw them either...i still vividly remember not going to a show they played in charlotte with some buddies from school circa 2000...classic mix tape band

speaking of whichis there still a market for some older emo and hardcore 7"s and vinyl?ive got a ton of old jejune, briad, guk, converge, coalesce, botch etc etc etc etc stuff on vinyl several that are pretty rare left.. (like the JEW/Jejune 7")most on colored, latest being circa 2000.but they havent been used in years, my reciever shat itself and if anyone remembers the get up kids show at go! a few days after the red letter day ep came out.....that was the heat.big controversy over tickets being presold, after announcing ont he webpage etc, that it'd be first come first serve...so me and my buddies drove up from rocky mount, stood in the rain all day (with a ton of people), to find out it was sold out... pryor came out and was smoking cigarettes with us for about an hour before the show started, then told us to hang around the door during the show, they'd prop it open and we could watch, but that they'd have something special planned.then they let all the kids outside in after the first show ended, for a second show..IIRC lazy cain, no knife, and hot rod circuit played appreviated like 2 song sets as openers, all on GUK's equipment so there'd be no changeover time.then they played a longer set than the first show..and hung around go till like 4, they didnt kick anyone out.. just getting drunk and shooting the shit with anyone who cared to hang around.if anyone remembers the red drape behind the stage at go for a long time, the huge loogi on the upper right corner was generated that night.ahah, goddamn that was a long time ago

3/28/2007 9:21:34 AM
Hell fucking yes.I still smile when they come up on random and occasionally get on a Getup kick that lasts for days on end.Saw them at Cat's Cradle in that 04 show. Top 3 best shows ever.
3/28/2007 9:40:55 AM

3/28/2007 1:02:08 PM
oh this totally got me breaking out 4 minute mile at worklove 'em, totally brings me back to highschool/early collegei did see them live once at that place that i think is called disco rodeo (dont know, dont live in nc anymore) and it was actually one of the worst concerts i've ever been too. i dont know, the sound was pretty crappy and it just wasnt that exciting. i was so unbelievably disappointed

^^ Was it the On a Wire tour in 2002 (I have that on mp3 by the way)? Because that was a weaker setlist, since they mainly played that album (and it's only got a few high points). My favorite band, I've been lucky enough to see them 6 times. The Cat's Cradle show back in 2000 is still the best show I've ever seen. Something To Write Home About had just came out and they played pretty much the whole thing and a bunch of older stuff. On their final tour I saw them in DC and then the next night drove up to Philly to see them again. Awesome. They always seemed to be having fun on stage.I have a lot of live shows if anyone is interested.PS Check out Jim Suptic's new band Blackpool Lights http://www.myspace.com/blackpoollights if you like TGUK. His songs were always highlights on the albums I thought. And from what I here they've been playing Forgive and Forget at their live shows.[Edited on March 28, 2007 at 4:57 PM. Reason : ps]

Oh and I know of someone (clears throat) that set up a Gmail account containing a bunch of live shows, unreleased songs, acoustic sets, radio appearances etc. I don't want to post it here since someone would probably delete everything as a joke, but if you want the username and password PM me.
3/28/2007 5:03:52 PM
id definitely be interested in checking some of that stuff out sometime
3/28/2007 10:09:08 PM
^^the timing of 2002 seems about right.....problem is, i went to that show with my best friend from highschool, so its not like i can even base what time in my life i saw it by who i saw the concert with
3/28/2007 11:46:03 PM
haven't heard much about hot rod circuit in a few years but i think they just released a new album iirc...and speaking of kansas bands, lets give some love to the appleseed cast[Edited on March 29, 2007 at 12:31 AM. Reason : ]

3/29/2007 12:47:00 AM
i used to be real into kansas bands. coalesce, the casket lottery and a some more. oh, high school.
3/29/2007 1:15:28 AM
hot rod circuit's first album was fan-fucking-tastic, but after that they got REALLY shitty.
3/29/2007 6:43:43 AM

3/29/2007 11:01:12 AM
i saw em twice, at the cradle and the MB house of blues back in the dizzayi listen to them from time to time when i want to hear some 'emo' thats not too 'emo'. know what i mean?
3/29/2007 2:02:04 PM
Yup.
3/29/2007 3:50:23 PM
bah listening to their EPs and four minute mile reminds me of all the local shows i used to go to in charlotte in HS.friend's mom owned an art gallery in downtown. The place had a stage in one back corner and behind the stage was a HUGE glass window that was wider than the stage with a train track not more than 10ft behind the window. It looked badass at night with shows there and the train in the background, dono why i liked it. but yea the local group of bands that played there were all actually really good then and they pulled some bigger bands there (who were small at the time) or people who are in bigger bands now, the first bands they were in and all played there. I really miss going to shows every weekend and driving all over the state/region to go to good shows. :/ just kinda lost touch with new music that way over the past few years
3/29/2007 10:40:46 PM
I think you just made me tear up.
3/29/2007 10:53:41 PM
haha. although ill tell you what i miss more...playing with CTA . if there is anything i ever get all /wrists about its the fact that CTA just kinda died at our peak without even a last show and without ever releasing the CD we recorded...hoping there is still time to fix that...even if its one more show. I need some closure. To be able to make music that other people enjoyed, no other feeling like it.[Edited on March 29, 2007 at 10:58 PM. Reason : ]
