CrazyJ,

I know you have said in the past that pop-ups was not an option to help with funding for the site, but to increase funds is there anyway that you maybe could have one pop-up come up on the home page and then another on the message boards? This wouldn't become too annoying and would be a way to bring in some revenue. Just a thought on how to bring in some funds for the site.

there are ways to circumvent popups, and soon the secret would get out how to do it.

intrusive ads really piss me off anyways.

I don't think that they(webmasters) are that bad off. Pop-ups just run people away. The first thing people do when they see them is hit the back button to prevent anymore.

I wasn't thinking of having TWW begin to look like a porn site with tons of pop-ups on each page, i was thinking maybe one pop-up for the most frequently visited pages. This may be a way for the guys to make a little more money.

I'll say this: as much navigation as people do on this site, those things would get really damn annoying. But lets say that popups don't exist if you're a premium.... I'd either A) stop using the site period. (yeah right) or B) go premium. Hopefully this summer I can accumulate some extra spending money and do it anyways, but that would suck in a lot of people, and then eliminate the need for popups.

I generally boycott sites with popups. I'd hate to add TWW to that list.

Play it smart, CrazyJ, just like you have in the past. Keep popups to the crappy sites - they don't belong here.

I've already explained why I don't help out, and so far as I am concerned, I'm completely justified in not choosing Paypal to do my business with. Create an alternative and I'll consider it.

DUDE, you go to the same fucking college! Just ask him to meet you in front of Daniels at 3:00 tomorrow and give him $25.00 or whatever.

That bullshit excuse is >bullshit<

Thanks for playing though. You sound like a whiny brat. If you don't want to pay, just say you're a greedy bastard. Don't mask it with "paypal is a monopoly bla bla bla"

I'm only a jackass when I'm provoked. He provoked me when he insulted my intelligence by expecting me to accept that excuse.

I have no problem with paying for the services of TWW. But going up to Jake and asking him to take this money is bad business, both for me and him. Just imagine, if there are 30 other people on this site like me who do not want to pay through Paypal, what kind of mayhem Jake's going to have to go through whenever one of us decides to donate $10 for such-and-such. Not only does he have to remember that the transaction occurred, but he has to remember the reasoning for it, too. "Oh, I gotta give premium for 2 years and 300,000 ad views to bigginal, and 3 years premium and 100,000 ad views to (someperson), and ....." To be honest, it doesn't sound like much to remember. But when you add it up, it's a lot more work than what he and I both want to go through. We both have busy lives, and what happens when he forgets that the transaction occurred, or for what reason the transaction occurred, and gives 200,000 ad views to the wrong member? What happens when I forget? It's not worth that kind of trouble.

I may very well be a "greedy bastard" - but some things I am willing to pay for. TWW is one of them. But the long and the short of it is that I will not have a Paypal account until their business practices become much better than what they are now. Again, give me a valid alternative and I'll consider it.

Until then, I'm doing my part outside of paying for services. I refer other people to TWW. I actively participate in the Feedback Forum threads in an effort to help Jake increase the usefulness of this site. You'll even notice that in most of the FF threads I create, and in some others, I even give Jake alternative solutions to the issue that I am asking him to take a look at. I actively participate in the Tech Talk threads to help make TWW a valid place to obtain technical support and to help TWW gain a more tech-oriented community. I even post on the Calendar every once in a while! Every online forum is no more than the sum of its users because the users make the site worthwhile. Now if you want to criticize me for being a "whiny brat" that's your parogative, no matter how wrong you may be. That's what free speech is all about. But don't criticize me for not doing my part to keep TWW a popular and useful site.

Now, you should also know that I don't insult people's intelligences because I never ask them to accept a crap excuse. Each and every one of my concerns I post about, especially in FF, I am genuine in. That's how you make improvements - you find out what people really think about your site. I generally will, however, round down to the lowest common denominator and explain most of what I say with no regards to whom I am talking. That could be construed as insulting people's intellegences, and it's a habit I'm trying to discontinue. But do not, ever, accuse me of making up crap excuses.

I despise pop-ups when they're commercial advertisements. But I wouldn't mind something along the lines of NCSU community service announcements - sell them to various NCSU org's & frats, for example.

If you were to implement this, I feel that premium users should not have to see them. This could be an extra incentive to become prem. by avoiding popups (even though like they said it could be stopped)

Also another way would be to have a redirection page. Like something that when you click on it shows and add real quick on a page and has a link to visit the topic, but that would be much more annoying probably.

although i doubt we'll ever have either, we're a lot more likely to have redirection stuff rather than pop-up ads. i surf a lot on this 486-33 at jennifer's place and pop-ups take like 45 seconds to spawn a new browser window. plus i always thought that redirection stuff was kinda cool and effective.

That's cool CrazyJ, I just thought it may be a way to help you guys raise a little extra money to cut back on the costs of running TWW.

as long as premium users wouldn't be subjected, then whatever's clever.

as far as paying for premium, why don't you just send him a check?

blah blah blah

Why don't you let HIM decide what's a pain in the ass?

Jake is smart; I am sure that if he has too much to remember, he will come up with a solution. He sure as hell doesn't walk around with the back of his hand to his forehead saying "Woe is me, people keep writing me checks."
