I might be stuck taking summer school and the selection for ECE 400 level classes is very limited.i'm taking 402 but would you recommendece 435 with JJ Brickleyor ECE 456 with M.Y. Chowright now i'm leaning toward 456 b.c it meets only two days a week and 435 is four days from 3:45-5.how is the material and how do the professors match up.

i might consider ECE492V also but i can't find anything on the class or professor so i don't want to walk blindly into a monster class

I'm in 435 with Brickley this semester.I like the material. The book (Nise) leaves something to be desired, IMHO. Brickley has been late almost every single day.By late, I mean ~10 minutes on average.By almost every single day, I mean all but 3.But I do think the material is interesting.

It'd be cool if Bradicich was doing 406 this summer, I hear he's the man for that class
3/20/2007 8:55:45 PM
i might just take IE311 and just take three 400 level classes in teh spring
3/20/2007 9:18:44 PM
I'd do 3 400's in the spring. If not, 456.

ECE 456 is a great class. you'll need time out of class to work on your program for the robot though.

I would avoid 435 with Brickley at all costs unless you somehow think you want to work with Controls in your career. The homeworks are impossible so everyone just copies old solutions. The tests are even worse. He is in the running for one of the worst professors in ECE. He will be late almost every day by a significant amount and he will make you fall asleep within 5-10 minutes.

In general, what are some good 400 level electives to take? I'm trying to fill in my last class and I can't decide.[Edited on March 21, 2007 at 1:27 PM. Reason : ?]

both are good courses435 would probably be easier to take over the summer and will give you some knowledge that you'll use in 456456 was a funner course though

btt for 400 level ECE suggestions
3/22/2007 3:18:25 PM
^ What do you want? An easy elective? Interesting? Good Lab? Math based? etc
3/29/2007 6:39:21 PM
Obviously I would want the best of all worlds. I don't mind working hard or stringent math; ECE 301 was one of my favorite classes if that influnences your recommendation. I know mostly nothing about 400 level ECE classes so any general thoughts or comments on them would be very helpful. Thanks

4/2/2007 12:03:44 PM
4/2/2007 12:05:36 PM
4/2/2007 2:55:45 PM
yeah i might take the lasers class, i want to take 402 but i do not want to get up at 8 am four days a week
4/2/2007 3:09:03 PM
^fyi...if you're counting the lab as one day when you have to get up at 8am...don't. the lab for 402 with hughes was not required...it was more like office hours for the TA. however...maybe things have changed and class is 4 days a week or maybe attendance in the lab is necessary
4/2/2007 5:56:21 PM
nahh the lab is at 1 on tues, its good ole lecture 8:40 MTHF
4/3/2007 9:56:13 AM
hmm...that sucks. i didn't realize that regular 3 hour courses were being taught 4 times a week for 50 minutes each day...must be something new?
4/3/2007 12:05:47 PM
for summer
4/3/2007 1:13:46 PM
Its either that or twice a week for 1hr 50 mins. Either way, it can suck pretty bad. Just hope you have a teacher you can enjoy that much of.
