I'm thinking the student store with the student discount, but I don't know how much discount students get. Any other places?

there's really not many places you can "get deals" on apple stuff. Their pricing is pretty strict.
that said, try the campus store and apple store.

sign up for the Student Apple Developer membership -- IIRC it's $99 for a year, but you get a $250 discount on 1 piece of hardware. Order it from the online Apple Store for Education (that's about -$100 off regular retail) and use that ADC discount

Not sure if you can still do that, but when I worked for Apple that was what we were told to recommend to folks

The bookstore will be running a sale on apple items soon. Check with them in a week or two if you can wait that long.
