small world... i had avoided any refrences to that on here until now- figured someone woulda seen me
the recipe for that is quite simple.. pint o jack, 2 bud lights, 20oz bottle of moonshine all in less than an hour
that yields a 3/4" crack in the skull... large subdural and small subaracnoid hematomas, a chipped tooth, and some permanent memory loss and personality changes

and the 10k in hospital bills.. wee

lol, damn... we figured whatever happened was alcohol related, haha.

we get pretty crazy at the races too, but knock on wood nothing has ever happened other than a few harsh words from security/police and some parking lot altercations with the rednecks.

post all star race a couple of years ago, lol:

well, basically if i didn't have good health insurance i'd be responsible for all of my medical bills (or at least a good chunk). it's also possible i would be denied certain aspects of my care, or at least wouldn't have recieved the top notch orthopedic/infectious disease specialists that i have.

if decent auto insurance wasn't involved between the guy that hit me and the policy on my truck, i'd be screwed for lost wages and the small percentage of the medical bills i do owe. even all the little out of pocket expenses add up and otherwise wouldn't be compensated for, such as gauze wraps for my wounds for example. that stuff isn't cheap.

so, in short, i'd be in alot of debt, broke, and probably in much worse physical (hell, and emotional) shape.

alot of people just opt for the cheapest auto policy, because they see no need to have extra. also, even the state minimum sounds like alot of money. it's not. there is one main reasons why you should carry a good policy:

if someone hits you, and they only have the state minimum, that's all you get. period. there is no sueing the insurance company, there is no sueing the person for more. if they're policy was 30k and your bills/expsenses are 50k, tough luck. unless you have a good underinsured section on your policy. then your own company helps fill the gap. it gets trickier than that for all the legalities and i won't go into trying to explai it, but the bottom line is carry as much underinsured coverage as you can.

i used to always get the cheapest car insurance, and i've even spent some time without health insurance before. never again, i don't care if i'm paying my premiums vs. eating.

just know for those of you without insurance, as long as you pay a minimum of $5 a month, they can't mess with ya.

If you want to get rid of them quickly they will generally give you a 20-25% discount if you pay them off right away. Just call them up and say you can't really afford to pay the entire bill at this time but if they will settle it for a lower cost you may be able to get the money...whaa-laaa instant discount. I had a hospital offer this to me once without me asking, I've since used it twice.

2nd...ummm, why's this thread in the garage?

so for motorcycle insurance.... im insured if an uninsured motorist hits me. i might want to increase the coverage on that tho. i think i made it pretty big since it wasnt a lot more to begin with.

right... there should be a section on your policy saying something to the effect of uninsured/underinsured coverage. that's what you have to fall back on if someone hits you and they have no insurance or not enough to cover your exspenses.

NOW... here is the hitch. your un/underinsured coverage has to be in excess of what their policy will pay out. otherwise, under the law, they're not technically underinsured since they're coverage is more that yours. that's another reason to carry as much as you can, to make sure you qualify for it if you need it. also, it's usually a VERY small increase in your premium for ALOT more coverage. insurance companies/agents don't inform you of this. probably because it puts them at risk to lose alot more money when they're not bringing much more in to compensate.

i would. especially with a motorcycle knowing your chances of some idiot plowing into you are greatly increased.

i dunno. i guess it's relevant with the auto/bike insurance topic. otherwise not.
