I was at the game and it really wasn't that big of deal if you were there. The game was over, our fans were leaving, and they were about to win the ACC. I mean, we did basically give them the outlet pass to let him do it.
3/13/2007 10:52:31 AM
i was more upset by the outcome of the game

( no NCSU alum club in Seattle ). the game was over. lawson ran away with it. so what? it was so not a factor of anything.i didnt even think another thought about it till i showed up here, and everyone was crying and acting like dumbasses.if state woulda been in the same position, all you fans would have been all like "BOLEEDAT!!!" and making fun of Carolina fans who bitched about it.fucking stupid.[Edited on March 13, 2007 at 10:58 AM. Seems like the older of us here have less of a problem with it than the ones just now hitting puberty.

I agree, but with all of the commotion that this topic has created, it would absolutely be in the best interest of TWW, NC State, and it's fan base to LEAVE THIS TOPIC ALONE.It cannot do any good by re-hashing this, again.

yeah this is old, let it go. I basically just said "classy...." when it happened and moved on. Anyone remember Scooter doing that at Chapel Hill 4 or 5 years ago? might have even been in overtime, i forget. I know we swept them those two years that they were really really bad.
3/13/2007 11:42:47 AM
I saw nothing wrong with it. Lawson has displayed class in every game that I've witnessed. It's plausible if he dunks during regulation. Its basketball.
3/13/2007 11:49:19 AM
I didn't know he could dunk. Was that his first of the season? If so, I would have loved to of seen someone like Atsur/Evtimov/Gainey do it given the circumstance.
3/13/2007 11:57:05 AM
yeah, thats the only dunk he had this yearhe was excited, they just beat a strong willed ncstate team that gave them all they could handle to win the ACC tournament
3/13/2007 11:58:20 AM
you would never see an nc state player doing that.hell, the other day al thorton had a wide open breakaway dunk oppurtunity that would have given him a record, but they were up big in the final seconds and he just dribbled it out.
3/13/2007 12:15:41 PM
you can't say someone from our school would never do thatand you can't say you wouldn't shit your pants in excitement if they did
3/13/2007 12:16:53 PM
yes i canwe've had opportunities to do that this season and haven't done itand i would be mad if one of our players did that.
3/13/2007 12:18:12 PM
3/13/2007 12:18:31 PM
I cant say someone from State will never do thatbut I can say I wont be happy with it if they do.
3/13/2007 12:18:45 PM
my only reaction was that i wish we had run out the final 0.8 seconds after the dunk by hurling the ball inbounds directly off of lawson's head. that would have been gangsta!
3/13/2007 12:20:54 PM
i'm not talking about a game versus fucking elonif we were about to beat carolina in the acc championshipand fells FUCKING YAMED IT with one second leftyou would honestly frown upon thatgive me a break
3/13/2007 12:20:57 PM
it was and still is a non-issue to me too. I watched the game with 2 other State alum and none of us batted an eye when he got the dunk. I talked to 2 other guys the next day and they felt exactly the same way. The game was over, he wasn't "running up the score", he never gets to dunk, etc. i felt it was more celebratory than anything - they just won the ACC Championships, let 'em go out with a bang. As far as our guys doing it? sure Atsur wouldn't do that, but Grant probably would if he had the chance.
3/13/2007 12:22:50 PM
i guess you guys dont remember scooter sherrill doing it in chapel hill when we beat them there the year they went 8-20
3/13/2007 12:36:06 PM
I think the bigger issue is the fact that UNC was supposed to win. I wouldnt be happy if our guys did the same thing, but excitement from winning a game as a 14 point underdog and 10 seed against the 1 seed should be far greater than a 1 seed and 14 point favorite barely squeeking out a win. You just won a battle in a game that should have been a blowout, have some respect for your opponent. I've said it 100 times that if our guys did that with a 7 point lead and 5 seconds left I'd be pissed if they didnt get an earfull from Sidney.
3/13/2007 12:37:13 PM
whatever, everyone i was with yelled a ton of obscenities and thought it was pretty unsportsmanlike. fuck unc, fuck roy, fuck lawson
3/13/2007 12:44:56 PM
Jesus. Are some of you people morons lacking all capability of critical thought?Seriously? This kid (and thats what he is) is a freshman on the biggest stage of his life. They were about to win the tourney and he found himself with an open shot at the rim, something that he might see once over the course of 10 games. He was just taking a opportunity to have a little fun, and actually get to dunk the ball in a real actual game for a change. He was pumped. If I could dunk, I'd be thinking the same thing. It wasn't even like he tried to do some reverse windmill, and pull up on the rim. Then hop off and run to our fans to taunt them (ala UMd in football, etc).Get out of this lame mindset where you heard your parents spew similar rhetoric 2 years ago when you were still sucking their teets as a high school kid and think for yourself. If you were offended by that dunk, you're a pussy. Grow some balls. I bet the same people crying about this were never really competitive growing up, and always got punked on the field. [Edited on March 13, 2007 at 12:50 PM. Reason : a]

i dont think it was that people thought the dunk was offensive. it's just unnecessary. nobody was even trying to play defense because they figured he'd just run the clock, so he goes and slams it with nobody around and gets all over sportscenter like he accomplished something.
3/13/2007 12:56:34 PM
to not get upset when it happened is to say: "hey you, stop getting all emotional in an incredibly intense and emotional moment"it was nearly impossible for me at the time to not be pissed, especially since our players were worn down as shit and could barely stand.to stay pissed about it is to be childish, and to post the types of neanderthal comments that get on TV is some NC State shit to do. and yeah, someone like Grant would've done the same thing, and the whine and cheese crowd would be feeling the same way we did at the time.
3/13/2007 1:04:52 PM
Just admit it, you were pissed we lost, and you want to cry about something. That is all this is.He didn't taunt anyone at mid court with his arms raised like an asshole. He didn't do some ghey dance in front of our bench, band, or fans.Or give them the bird, or yell expletives at them after they were no doubt yelling them at him.He just was out there having a little fun.Why is this a tough concept for some of you?

I saw no harm in the dunk. He's a young guy winning the biggest game of his life so far. He's like 4 feet tall, so dunking is a pretty rare thing for him. I would have loved to see Atsur dunk at the end of the game if we had won it. It might be a little unsportsmanlike, but it's certainly not worth making a big deal about. Waaaahhh, a UNC player was slightly unsportsmanlike, let's string him up...It kind of reminds me of a soccer game I played in a long time ago. We were winning 8-1, I already had 2 goals in the game, and we were in the last few minutes of the game. I got a breakaway, and did I just puss out and kick the ball gently to the keeper? Fuck no, I brought the keeper out the top of the box, bent it around him, and celebrated my ass off for scoring a hat trick. (te celebration did not include any taunting at all.) (Also got the keeper so pissed off that he hit me while I was taking my shot and got a yellow card - so I was responsible for the only card I've ever seen pulled on a goaltender.) I rarely scored at all in the past, so was I supposed to pass up the opportunity for a hat trick? Was Lawson really supposed to pass up the opportunity for a dunk? He was just really excited, and I see no harm in that at all.You guys need to grow up some.
3/13/2007 1:13:15 PM
We can talk in circles all day long about what is and isn't un-sportsman like. Bottom line is, if you were offended by that dunk, you're probably a nancy.
3/13/2007 1:13:39 PM
^^but you're a douchebag. everyone knows that.

Apparently some of the national media and Roy Williams himself disapprove of it.They aren't making a big deal out of it, but they do wish it hadn't happened.Just like me.So don't act like we're the only ones that noticed, or that we're pussies or some shit because of it.
