i ran in a 5k for the first time yesterday, so im curious who else runs 5ks and what your times are. so post your times here.

3-11-07 Kelly St. Patrick's Day Shamrock 5K, Baltimore MD - 24:55 8:05 pace

nothing spectacular, but 3 minutes faster then my practice runs. I was shooting for under 25 minutes, and I barely squeezed it under.

My fastest officially timed 5k thus far is a 22:31 in Wilmington last year, though, that came after 22:45 of swimming and 33:57 of biking. I'm hoping to crack 20 min on some training runs at some point in May.

I ran a 19:35 the other day at a local track and almost passed out afterwards. I'm training for a 5K down here in Charleston in a couple weeks. Been going for a lot of 4-mile runs and just broke 27 minutes the other day.

I want to try and break 19:30 for the 5K. I think it can be done. My adrenaline level usually takes a good 10 seconds off my run.

20:52 in June 2004 at age 20. Looking forward to the Cary 10k, I could probably even beat that pace.

someone made fun of me for running around 27 mins in college (during gym). i mean, thats the only exercise i had really done ever, no sports in years or any major exercise besides some weekend fun. buncha asses on here. i mean, half the fatties couldnt even make it 5k.

[Edited on March 12, 2007 at 12:57 PM. Reason : i know it isnt good, but im sure its better than a lot of people could manage]

^^^^nothing wrong with that...of the 3500 that ran my race yesterday, not even half the people finished below 27 minutes.

i run a lot on treadmills, but i had only run 3 times (all within the week before the race) on the ground before my 5k, so i think i could improve if i had been training more. i was suprised about how different it was running on the ground as opposed to on a treadmill.

22:35 when I was 21. it was for run conditioning. I actually had the prof come up and ask me if I really ran all the laps. I guess since I was 6' and 230lbs (very little muscle in that) I didn't look like I could run well. But once she went back and looked at my run times throughout the semester she apologized.

23:34 so far. I've been running longer distances, I need to do some speed training. Are there any big races in the Triangle for the spring? I'd like to run a half marathon to keep in shape for the Peachtree in July.

haha, i don't run everyday, but i do elliptical for about 45-1 hr, and lift MWF.

i was 317 about 4 months ago, so i'm making progress. i'm gonna work on smoking though, the new girl doesn't smoke, and while she doesn't care that i do, i probably should quit if for any reason than for her not to start because of me.

i wouldnt mind running a 10k, but after about 5 miles, i get sick of running. theres a cool 10k race up in maryland where you run over the bay bridge (the long bridge that connects mainland maryland to the eastern shore).

we'll see if i can motivate myself to run furthur then 5k.

I hear ya. Sounds like its all working out. I started working out when I got up to 260 lbs and I'm down to about 206 right now (my goal is 180 lb range but I'm 6'1, not 6'4 )

I ran about 24-25 minutes in high school. I broke 20 minutes once, but I'm pretty sure the course must have been shorter or something.

this is something i've wanted to do for a while - it shows conclusively (as if anyone had any question) how closely related weight and running ability are linked

the chart shows the 3 distinct stages of my running career as year 5k best vs average weight. I was actually pretty surprised with how well the lines match up....

Damn, and all the "Fat Ass" times are faster than my time Well it was my first one so I am pleased... I guess I need to lose some weight too in addition to speed work.

Oh and for people who asked there is the Cary Road Race (http://www.townofcary.org/depts/prdept/events/crr.htm) 10K and 5K April 14th (I know it's not in Raleigh, but it's close and registration is $11).

TN is one of the few states where high school cross country is 3 miles and not 5K...I know it's not hardly different, but my high school PR was just over 17:00 in the 3 mile...

and then after not running for a few years and having stress fractures in high school, I ran a 22:00 5K in PE101
