its a two fold questionfirst: how did duke get 10 more fg atts than us w/ 2 less off rebounds and three more turnoverssecond: when a player shoots and gets fouled, does that count as a field goal attempt?

and by two fold question i mean its actually two questionstricky!!

just because you get an offensive rebound doesn't mean that you get a shot off, its all about the timing of rebounds/turnovers

re #2 -- it's been years since i played basketball @ high school, but IIRC if the ball's out of your hands before the foul is called it counts as an FGA. it doesn't count if the foul is called before the shot is released or if there's a foul for goaltending.

if you are fouled on a shot the shot attempt doesnt count...however if you make the shot, it still doesnt count towards your fg count...sometimes you'll see players with 12 points on 2/2 fg and 4/4 ftalso i enjoy how we had like 14 more free throw attempts than duke...thats a new one right there

well obviously if the shot doesn't go up before the foul it doesn't countbut if you go up to take a shot and you get hacked does that count as a fga?
3/9/2007 3:35:17 AM
it counts if the shot goes in. or else pocius would be like 5 for 3
3/9/2007 3:56:03 AM
I always assumed that if it went in it counted as a FGA and if it missed it didn't count against you.

its a violation, but no foul is given to the player who goaltended.
3/9/2007 9:14:46 AM
i might be confusing nba rulesi do know if you miss it doesnt count as an attemptbut i thought makes didnt either, not as sure about that one
3/9/2007 10:54:25 AM
made shots count for you (or so announcers in games have said)
3/9/2007 10:56:44 AM
^^^haha i never claimed there was i just said that (again, at least in HS nearly a decade ago) goaltended shots didn't apply to the FG or FGA stats for the game. guess my post was sloppily-worded on my part ::shrug::
3/9/2007 11:58:20 AM
aha, k so the consensus is if you miss it doesnt count but if you make it it does, thanks

New QuestionIn today's FSU/UNC game, at the end of the half, when there is a technical foul and it is assessed after halftime, how do they decide who gets the ball. Like today, UNC had the possession arrow either way, what if FSU was supossed to get the ball, does the foul negate that?

fg attempts don't count on any level if you're fouled and miss
3/9/2007 5:13:59 PM
the answer to the second question is.....if you are fouled in the act of shooting and the basket is good it counts as a FGA and FGM. IF the shot is missed it doesnt not count as anything. Also college has different rules than high school for technical fouls. UNC received the ball after halftime because of the possesion arrow. If it was in FSUs favor then they would have received the ball. Its according the point of interruption. In high school there is no such thing as point of interruption so UNC would get the ball for the Tech and then for the possesion arrow. i hope that clears up some confusion.
