where did you get it, is it any good, and how much did it cost?thanks.

some eureka bagless piece of shit from target. cost like 90 bucks and has 70 attachments. I let my wife talk me into it. It gets constantly clogged up with dog hair and just generally sucks. It also weighs about 30 pounds so its a pain in the ass to lug around the house. If I had to do it again, I would pony up the money for an oreck or something like it that is light weight and simple and just works. I am interested in seeing some of the responses to this thread, though, as I will probably be purchasing a new one soon.

we have a dyson. paid a friend $250 for it cause they were moving to england. we love it. it's awesome on pet hair and doesn't get clogged (like they claim). only problem so far is the brush getting filled with carpet fibers (new carpet sheds a lot)

I purchased the Kenmore Progressive canister after 2 months of looking at different brands. I had the kenmore magic blue for about 2 years. The floor attachment broke on my magic blue and the carpet attachment was not cutting it on my hardwoods. I was heavily considering the Dyson or a Rainbow until Consumer Reports issued their latest issue and scored those as ok. I went with the Kenmore because of the rating, price (reg. $299, on sale for $230) and I really wanted a canister. Hoover has a great canister as well, but I could not find it in a store to "try out".I have LOVED it so far. The head of the vac is a little bulky, but the floor tool attachment gets under a lot of places. It has a power attachment that we have used in the cars and on the mattress. I also run around barefoot and have noticed a huge difference in my floors.I also recommend getting a bag vac. Bagless create a lot of dust if you empty it in the house. I did not want the hassel of having to go outside to empty the canister.I feel really old now.[Edited on March 7, 2007 at 10:58 AM. Reason : multitasking does not work]

Oreck - these things are workhorses and light to boot. I've had the one for about 5 years with no problems ever. They are at least $300, but worth every penny

i hate hate upright vacuums. they never work as well as canisters.i have a hoover windtunnel. it was around $250 when i got it 5 years ago. it's a pretty good vacuum. haven't had any problems with it and i can find hte bags almost anywhere. i have a long haired dog that sheds a lot and 3 cats.http://www.hoover.com/db/xq/asp.hvrProductMain/CatID.5/SubID.6/ProdID.135/ModID.693/qx/WindTunnel.htmmy mom got a kenmore progressive http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/product.do?BV_UseBVCookie=Yes&pid=02025914000&cat=Vacuum+Cleaners+%26+Floor+Care&subcat=Canister+Vacuums&vertical=APPL&ihtoken=1and it is THE SHIT. she swore up and down she'd never buy another kenmore pos but this one is super powerful and really good at picking up allergens and stuff (my dad is super allergic to EVERYTHING). it has a dirt detector (no clue how it works) but it's awesome and worth the $500 or so.[Edited on March 7, 2007 at 11:15 AM. got a dyson about a year ago. unlike the last three vacuum cleaners that only lasted a year, this one seems like it'll last longer.that and it picks up dirt and dog hair better than the previous ones. Looks like there are some new models that are as good or better than the dysons for cheaper, but hopefully we won't be needing a new one for several years.[Edited on March 7, 2007 at 11:45 AM. Reason : but really, we rarely use it. our cleaning lady says it's awesome. ]

yup, I have a kenmore upright I bought about 3 years ago. I love it, especially the rotary brush attachment for pet hair on couches and stuff. Before that I had a dirtdevil that I hated because it made so much dust when you tried to clean it. The attachment brush did get stuck, but I figured out how to clean it (remove 2 screws, take apart the brush, clean off the hair that gets stuck in the spindle and keeps it from rotating).oh yeah, and it was about $300, but worth it. 3/7/2007 2:52:06 PM
i have no idea what the brand is, but it is also a bagless piece of shit...i got it from lowe's. it's lasted longer than my previous bagless, or bagged, pieces of shit...but i still hate it.
3/7/2007 3:16:31 PM
I have a 60 dollar vacuum I got from K-mart 1 year ago. Works just fine to me, and I would never spend more than 60 dollars on a vacuum, but thats just me tho.
3/7/2007 3:57:48 PM
Electrolux FTW
3/7/2007 5:12:42 PM
I have an Oreck XL and a Hoover. I bought the Hoover because it had a Hepa filter and attachments. The 8lbs Oreck is the bomb though.
3/7/2007 5:14:42 PM
I don't know but mine really sucks.i know its bad, you know its bad, but somebody had to say it, right?
3/7/2007 5:18:25 PM
I have a central vacuum with like a 30-foot hose. It has an air-powered rotating brush attachment that works surprisingly well on carpets. I can't say how it does with animal hair since we don't have any, but I would imagine it does a good job.
3/7/2007 5:36:08 PM
Consumer Reports FTW!!
3/7/2007 5:36:46 PM
Dyson. Pretty happy with it. Got it at Bed, Bath, and Beyond with the 20% off coupon that comes weekly in the mail.[Edited on March 7, 2007 at 5:40 PM. Reason : afd]

I have a Hoover Encore of indeterminate age that was picked up for $5 at a yard sale. And I'm generally happy with it.
3/7/2007 7:21:15 PM
kirby FTW!
3/7/2007 7:48:06 PM
Kenmore upright that I found in a dumpster at Chapel Hill when my sister moved out of her apartment last summer. Just disassmbled some of the main pieces, soaked them in Oxi Clean, and got a new bag. Works pretty good. Price was right.
3/7/2007 10:22:58 PM
^^ haha, we had one of those old Kirby machines when i was a kidmy dad has one of those yellow Dyson models. it's a badass piece of carpet cleaning equipment, but for $400-500, it oughta be.
3/8/2007 10:24:03 AM
I have a Dyson DC15, and with two shorthaired cats who like to pretend to be longhaired in their shedding routine, it was by far one of the best purchases I made last year.http://www.dyson.com/range/feature_frame.asp?model=DC15-ANIMAL
3/8/2007 10:34:51 AM
Purple Dyson....it was a gift from my brother..but I will tell you this. I have never gotten excited about a vacuum until I tried this thing.....as vacuum's go.....IT IS AWESOME !!
3/8/2007 11:02:10 AM
We have hardwood floors in all of our house so we just have a tiny dirt devil and a mini-wet/dry vac however, WRAL 5 on your side thing just showed the consumer reports best last week. I am sure you can check their website out for all the info

I've got a Bissell Powerforce bagless, it works pretty well. Picks up more doghair than I care to think about. I bought it when I moved into my current apt. so it's only been used about half a dozen times, but so far so good.
3/9/2007 7:53:28 AM
Mine is the kind that sucks dirt from carpet, cars, hardwood floors, furniture, and dogs.[Edited on March 9, 2007 at 10:23 AM. Reason : better now]
3/9/2007 10:23:06 AM
now, does a dyson work tons better than any vacuum...or does it just work as well as a canister?b/c there is a world of difference in upright vs. canister w/o dyson in the mix.
3/9/2007 10:39:11 AM

Some bagless thing, it's pretty good. Actually, it's exellent because it was free as a gift from our wedding.
3/10/2007 4:47:55 PM
some remanufactured cordless/bagless deal from big lots. i can't remember the brand off hand. works pretty well, and i really like not dealing with a cord.
3/13/2007 12:09:42 AM
is there any technological reason or proof that canisters are better than upright baglesses vacuums?
3/13/2007 12:18:20 AM
I read on eopinions that dysons are really rough on carpets. A few people wrote that the beaters constantly pull out the carpet fibers, reducing the life of the carpet. Has anyone experienced this?
3/13/2007 7:04:05 AM
got a Kenmore Progressive for $129
3/13/2007 9:03:43 AM

how do cannisters do with lots of dog hair? My current vacuum gets clogged up almost every time I use it with dog hair in the hose part.[Edited on March 15, 2007 at 8:14 AM. Reason : d]
3/15/2007 8:14:11 AM
mine does really well. i have a long haired dog and so does my mom, and we've always used canisters (except the one time we tried an upright, it didn't have the power to get the hair out of hte carpet).
3/15/2007 8:32:02 AM
I have the Dyson DC-14. I don't need all the pet hair pickup attachments but I did need the purple.
3/15/2007 4:48:07 PM
I have a sears kenmore as yet unbroken POS that I got on Black Friday for like $50. I also got a little Craftsman shop vac for about $30. I can suck even harder. I love wild expensive devices but I heard that Dyson is all marketing.
