Princess (which unfortunately we can't rename her, since she already knows it)

Was sold by a reputable dealer in early 2005 to a family in Raleigh. Recently, the family moved, abandoning her in their apartment. The SPCA rescued her, and was planning to put her down, but scanned her microchip and took her back to the seller to see if they could offer her a foster home.

She's 2.5 years old, has a very deep bark and is extra curious. Full-blooded scottish terrier, spayed, etc. etc. Absolutely gorgeous dog. I just wanted to share my excitement. Just wish I could name her something different!

its the Loofah Dog squeaky! my pup has one...she's killed both squeakers though.

I'm not sure about re-naming a pup that is 2.5 years old...might confuse the dog. At the same time though, my dog has a number of nicknames that she will respond to.

An idea: If you are familiar with clicker training, you could start using whatever name you've picked out and click/treat when she looks at you. Similar to a "watch me" command, except instead of "watch me" she is responding to her name. Then just use that name anytime you want to get her attention.

^ sounds like a plan. I just used tuna for my cat Nos. She never responded to "Mabel" but my god she hears nos and her ass is THERE. Though i guess i do spoil her rotten with Tuna. She's a very happy kitty.

Yeah it may be harder than with a puppy, but you can definitely rename your new dog. It just may take a little more time for her to start responding to a new name that a puppy would, but it'll work out.

Yea, we might try the click/treat method to switch her name. It'll take a little time. We're just excited she's as healthy and happy as she is. Very well-behaved, but very Scottie in nature.

My wife and I renamed our dog from Peanut to Toby when we got him at 4 1/2 years old. He never missed a beat. Dogs are smart, if they want your attention, they'll respond to whatever you call them.

our dog was 2 when we adopted her, and we were able to change her name (she had a stupid girly name ). we tried to pick something that sounded similar to her original name, and she picked it up really quickly. good luck, she's very cute, and most terriers are too smart for their own good!

I'm wicked jealous. I currently own a brindle Scotty boy and have wanted a wheaton scotty girl for years!!!! if you ever want her groomed - let me know, I'm a professional dog groomer. They're great dogs - I wouldn't give mine up for the world!!

I don't know but it fits so there's a good possibility. If so, I'm super glad that dog isn't with them anymore.

I remember that, I told them wheaton terriers don't sell much because of the color, most prefer the black, haha she freaked out and was like OMG WE'RE GETTING IT NOW. I freaked out because that's a poor reason tog et a dog!!

Yeah, she's actually up on the website right now, with a video and whatnot. That's where I saw her initially. I'm guessing she was sold in Jan. or Feb. 05, so if this happened around then, it could be her.

I only remember us ever getting one wheaton scottie in, and the one i remember was super cute and super friendly, and those people were super rude and i DID NOT want the puppy going home with them, but ALAS what is a lowly kennel girl to do?

That's good, may have grown out of it. Who knows. I thought we had jsut a few wheatons, I don't really remember, I've seen too many dogs in my day!

Renaming a dog is a smart thing to do, no matter how old. I adopted my dog Mollie when she was roughly 5 years old. Sarved, beaten, locked in a garage did a number on her. Her name was Hunter, and it took her about a week to learn that her name is Mollie now. It also took her a week to eat and do her business. She didn't eat anything for about a week and I got scared and called my bro who is a vet. She is doing great now, just can't seem to get her from being attached at the hip.




Actually, I did a little reading on adoption of a unwanted/abused dog. The guy said re-naming helps the dog to realize that its past home is in the past.
