What do you think?

I think it's possible. Romney attracts the Northeast and Midwest (Utah), and Gingrich attracts the south and Reaganites (I'm one, btw).

Gingrich for Prez!

I heard my brother say that and I just laughed my ass off. He's radioactive politically. No candidate serious about the presidency would choose him as a running mate.

according to the polls I have seen more people hate gingrich than clinton. not exactly an attraction.

in fact i saw a poll done by middle tennessee state that didnt say his approval, but said his dissaproval was 47% more than anyone else. when people in TN hate a republican more than hillary that guy is fucked.

I like Mitt Romney though. I used to live in Massachusetts and he did a great job for our state. Even though he is republican, I believe he could get a lot of democratic votes.

From what I've heard from Mit he will not answer the abortion flip-flop question in a straightforward fashion. Until he explains why he has all the sudden become prolife in the last few years folks like me will doubt the verity of his convictions. Gulliani has more credibility on this because he has at least addressed the issue directly. Now if Mit has explained his flip-flop somewhere please enlighten me if you care.

yeah, the abortion thing would mean more to me if I actually thought it really mattered what opinion the president had regarding that issue.... I just dont think that abortion is an issue that we will see any policy on in the near future at least, so I dont consider that when looking at a candidates views.

I mean, its such a very touchy topic, because in most peoples minds you have so many circumstances where people say, abortion is ok if x-x-x-x-x and then abortion is not ok if x-x-x-x.... Its just that I can see why one persons views can change on the issue, mostly because its not very black and white, and most candidates are pretty much forced to choose one or the other.

I think a Romney/Gulliani or Gulliani/Romney would be a great ticket for the Reps. Them southerners are all going to vote for McCain though..

^ you are of course free to weigh the importance of abortion as you wish. However, it is naive to suppose that the President doesn't ultimately have the most influence, albeit indirectly. Abortion was legalized through the courts (appointed by Presidents). Choosing the right President is as close as we can get to actually managing the courts.

except that supreme ct. judges often don't pan out in the way that nominating presidents intend.

and a republican president will still appoint conservative judges, who in most cases are anti abortion.

I think Gingrich has become less-hated / more sensible in his years since leaving the Speaker position

we just remember why we hated him less ... thats all.

Once he starts talking again, everyone will remember, and it will be over.

thats why he is going to wait as long as is strategically possible to announce ... so that he can talk and remind us for a shorter amount of time.

Who knows, maybe he will surprise us, but I dont see him getting the nod.

yeah when people get out of the spotlight their views, hated or loved, become diminished...back of the mind type thing

However something is to be said about time as well...not to make a ludicrous analogy...but Da Vinci's ideas were often too far ahead of the times...maybe a better analogy would be with Pat Buchanan...15-20 years ago he proposed building a wall between the US and Mexico to curb illegal immigration...people laughed...nowadays, regardless of what you think about how to control immigration, the IDEA of a wall between the two countries is a lot less radical...who knows

yeah ... I would probably vote for someone who would promise to hire some mexicans to build a wall to keep them out ...

but really, I think thats a much more important issue right now than abortion, gay rights, even iraq policy in some ways.

for once tree makes sense. 20 years ago Buchanan was considered a crazy radical. Now, most Republicans accept his positions.

I personally still think he is bat shit crazy. But hey, I think that about the people who think building a wall is a good idea now.

haha... i was being sarcastic about building a wall ...

THE ISSUE that i think is important is immigration and the policies we put in place for illegals. These have much more effect on our society right now than abortion and gay rights. abortion groups and gays just scream louder, so they get more attention, but i see that changing too.

Gingrich admitted today that he was having an affair the whole time he was going after Clinton for his infidelity and campaigning on family values.

hell, if we're gonna talk about the same subject in two different threads, I can do it too.

Quote :
"theres is so much dirt on this guy... he has so much baggage with him.

theres NO WAY he would ever be chosen as anyone's running mate. the GOP has enough liabilities as it is.

he can suck up all he wants to the religious right, no one is going to forget about how he served his wife of 19 years divorce papers in her hospital bed as she was recovering from a battle with cancer. He forced her to negotiate the divorce from the hospital and refused to pay alimony or child support.

and now this extramarital affair stuff? do you realize that he was having the extramarital affair during his marriage to his second wife, with a CONGRESSIONAL AIDE who was 23 YEARS YOUNGER?? all this while leading the persecution against Clinton?

Unlike the politicians who pander themselves to the religious right, the average person who considers themselves a "religious right" voter is generally NOT a selfserving morally bankrupt hypocrite.
