Whats a decent salary range for a certified vet tech? I have friend who has about 5 years experience, completed the vet tech program down at Sanford almost a year ago and is specializing in surgery. What should she be earning?

I'd also be interested to know, since that's what I'm interested in doing after graduation.

at best ~$16 starting out probably. maybe less. after a bit they might bump it up... 16 isn't bad, nothing spectacular but not bad

From the North Carolina Career Outlook Handbook 2006:Veterinary Assistants and Lab Animal Caretakers: entry: $14,540; all: $18,310; growth outlook: moderate (1.83/yr)Veterinary Technologists and Technicians: entry: $17,890; all: $24,300; growth outlook: high (3.07/yr); generally requires an associate's degreeSo, it doesn't look very good--if you want to make money. Employment opportunities look good, though.http://www.nccareeroutlook.com/[Edited on March 2, 2007 at 12:36 PM. Reason : .]

both my aunt and girlfriend are VT's, and my gf is almost done getting her certification. As a non certified tech, she makes ~12 an hour. At the practice she works at (4 doctors, 5 or 6 techs, 1 CVT) the CVT makes over $25 an hour. Alot of it has to do w/ where you got your education. The program at sanford is not looked upon highly (at least at my gf's practice), and owner/head doctor told her to do it remotely from Purdue University. She does her clinical work on the job, and travels to do large animal stuff, and takes her tests w/ the CVT on staff. The practice has hired a few CVT's from sanford and non of them lasted, and he will not hire any more, hence doing his own training and certifying w/ Purdue.
