First off, I would recommend doing some research into the different styles (ashtanga, ananda, anusara, viniyoga, bikram, iyengar, etc.) and think about what you want to get out of yoga. Do you want something that is very fast-moving and energetic, or do you want something calming to help relieve stress and to develop meditation and spirituality? I've practiced both Ashtanga and Hatha, completely different experiences. Ashtanga is more the first, using the breath to develop strength, while Hatha is much more concerned with using correct form to relieve and help physical problems. Other forms are more into stationery meditation and chanting. Besides the site mentioned, there is also Judith Valerie Yoga ( I take Hatha there now), Raleigh Yoga Center, and even classes at State through the Women's Center. Flyers for private instruction are frequently posted at grocery stores, coffee shops and gyms. You might want to call and ask if you can try out a class or two to see what you like. Several flyers I saw allowed that. Prices are reasonable, I think about $100-140 for an 8-week session, most places offer student and limited income discounts. Third, consider to whom the instruction is really catering. I feel pretty awkward in class with soccer moms who wear makeup to class and a teacher who talks about New Age hippie earth crap, then get up and drive away in ritzy cars. I like the idea of incorporating it into a simpler lifestyle. But to each her own.

^ Do you have to be in decent cardiovascular shape to do Bikram? I'm blessed that I can eat anything and still hover around 170, so I don't do any cardio work, just weights. I have been tempted to try it but I don't want to get in there and be gasping for air.

you'll be fine. as a beginner you just modify the movements. in about 2 weeks you'll notice dramatic changes. i haven't been in about 5 months though. its an awesome workout and cleansing.

Anyone doing Yoga these days? I go at least once a week and need to start going more. I usually prefer Vinyasa / flow but also really like Yin and restorative yoga. My girlfriend is almost done with a pretty intensive yoga certification semester and is going to try and start teaching soon. It seems like out of all the other physical activities I do Yoga has the most noticeable impact on my overall well being both physically and mentally. She's also doing a 21 day meditation challenge which is something I've always wanted to try as I'm always doing something and need to learn to slow down and disconnect.

Yep, still at it. Practice at Durham Yoga Company. Reading back on the old posts, I don't do so much Ashtanga anymore. I'm more a fan of alignment based vinyasa these days. I find I don't get sore as much, and my posture is much better the rest of my free time.

Better get over your yoga interest. It is now cultural appropriation and being banned (in Canada):http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3328996/Free-yoga-class-suspended-University-Ottawa-students-cultural-appropriation.html

Good thing it's a free country. Man if universities started banning everything that we stole from other cultures we wouldn't have much do now would we!

I recently decided to try out yoga at home a few days a week. I have been doing videos from http://www.doyogawithme.com thus far and like them. Anyone have any recommendations for YouTube channels with good videos? It looks like there are a bunch to choose from.

My girlfriend got a free 30 day trial through here: http://blog.gaiam.com/yoga-studio-by-gaiam-app/It's great. I think it's maybe $7-10/month after that. They have an app on Android, iOS, and Fire TV.
