Do I need to use oil filter for synthetics if I use synthetic oil due to the longer interval between oil changes?
2/20/2007 4:06:41 PM
no
2/20/2007 4:08:59 PM
I forgot to add that I'm too lazy to change the filter when I'm not changing the oil. Will regular filter last at least 10K miles?
2/20/2007 4:12:59 PM
i wouldn't reccomend it. if you care enough about the car for synthetic, you care enough to change the filter every ~5k.
2/20/2007 4:17:46 PM
i'd say if you get something like a K&N oil filter you should prolly be good, and if you wanna go all out, get one of those that never has to be changed
2/20/2007 4:20:01 PM
so would synthetic filter eliminate this problem?
2/20/2007 4:20:03 PM
what kind of car and how many miles
2/20/2007 4:25:48 PM
i've heard the k&n oil filters are crap. true or no?
2/20/2007 4:27:48 PM
^^99 Integra with 93K miles.
2/20/2007 4:28:53 PM
i use them on my bike, and have no problems. but i can't say i ever had "problems" with any oil filters, they all do same shit, some just have better flow^i wouldn't recommend switching to synthetic after 93 k[Edited on February 20, 2007 at 4:31 PM. Reason : ]

why not?
2/20/2007 4:35:26 PM
wix or baldwin ftw

http://minimopar.knizefamily.net/oilfilters.htmlTest comparing various oil filters. In short don't get FRAM
2/20/2007 5:30:25 PM
mobil1 and wix both offer extended life oil filters that can go up to 15K. i change my oil and filter every 10K.
2/20/2007 5:40:55 PM
Where to get wix filter around here?
2/20/2007 5:41:40 PM
napa, carquest, etc
2/20/2007 5:42:32 PM
the napa store brand oil filter is made by wix.
2/20/2007 5:46:16 PM
i'd rather get premuim wix than mobil1 filters. purolator pure one seems nice.for people that don't want to spend $10 on a filter, get regular purolator or advance auto brand.

screw oil changes. just a myth. you can go like 20k easy on dino.
2/21/2007 1:12:01 AM
because your seals react differently to synthetic oil than they do to regular oil. when i switched, my clutch bout stopped working.
2/21/2007 7:27:30 AM
^ on a motorcycle right?
2/21/2007 8:50:54 AM
change the filter the same time you change oil. whats the point of changing oil and using dirty filter.?????? not rocket science
2/21/2007 5:24:28 PM
^I was talking about changing filter when I'm not changing the oil, not the other way around.
2/21/2007 6:19:08 PM
yea on a bike, but i still think switching 1/2 way into your engine life is not all that great of an idea. why do you wanna go synthetic anyway?
2/21/2007 6:46:37 PM
because I thought synthetic is better for the engine, and it has longer change interval. Me being lazy thought it's a great idea to switch to synthetic.
2/21/2007 8:13:21 PM
just get a decent oil filter, and purchase some conventional oil (your choice brand/price - i do cheapest myself) rated SM and "energy conserving." change taht shit every 3-4000 miles and call it success. .02$
2/21/2007 8:19:27 PM
use bar and chain&oil you will be fine [Edited on February 21, 2007 at 8:21 PM. Reason : ;]

shit looks like honey

My old boss had a old gmc woods truck with 350 in it and it knocked like hell & leaked oil like hell. He used it in that worked for whole winter and a spring. [Edited on February 21, 2007 at 8:48 PM. Reason : .]

my truck ran about 115k on dino, switched to synthetic and run 20-25k between changes, and at 200k its still doing fine, hell i throw a filter on there every 10-12k when the oil pressure starts droppin off, and change the oil whenever it starts lookin nasty, which is a long, long time
