about a week ago, my eyes got really red and sensitive. I took out my contacts and put eye drops in my eyes. For about 4 or 5 days, I didn't wear my contacts. My eyes cleared up some what and I started wearing them again. My eyes from time to time still get red again. Im thinking about going to the eye doctor and see what the deal is.just curious if anyone has been through this before.

hard or soft contacts, what kind?
2/20/2007 1:34:31 PM
hard contacts i know for surei don't know the name brand off the top of my head, i'll post it later this afternoon.
2/20/2007 1:36:12 PM
call the doctor you idiot
2/20/2007 1:38:49 PM
Holy crap I can't believe anyone still wears hard contacts! Go to your eye doctor, you don't fuck around with your eyes.
2/20/2007 1:39:44 PM
could be an infection, a scratch on your eye, contact imperfection, ect....also, I think that people can develop astigmatism that have had no signs of it previously.
2/20/2007 1:41:30 PM
maybe it's a tumor.
2/20/2007 3:17:45 PM
hmm... what kind of hard contacts could you be wearing that you are able to wear them for an extended period of time?? Sounds odd to me.Anyway, I have soft contacts that are prescribed for 30 days of continuous wear and I usually wear them for atleast 1-2 months straight... my eye doctors say it's more than fine. If you have a habit of wearing yours a long time, you may want to look into them. Otherwise, you could be depriving your eyes of necessary oxygen which can cause irritation and infection.
2/20/2007 3:26:37 PM
I used to wear my soft contacts non-stop for 1-2 months. Then, a few months ago I developed an ulcer in my cornea. Bad bad bad. Had to use antibiotic drops constantly for a week. Got better. Now I know better than to wear my contacts 1-2 months straight.I take mines out atleast a few nights a week now.
2/20/2007 4:16:35 PM
i usually wear mine for 2-4 weeks straight, and leave them out the whole night before the change to a fresh pair. haven't had any problems in 10 years*knock* wood
2/20/2007 4:23:47 PM
2/20/2007 4:37:08 PM
i had pretty much the same problem, when i first started wearing contacts i would wear them for entirely too long. Then they just started hurting, so i took them out and wore my glasses for a while, but my eyes still hurt. Turned out i had rough spots on my cornea. I didnt wear contacts for a years because of this, now i wear them again, but more carefully
2/20/2007 5:33:39 PM
My eye doctor said it 's better idea to not wear any kinds of contact lens non-stop 'cos eyes need oxygen. Wearing something attach to eyeballs all the time'll cause dryness & eyes become sensitive & eventually might not be able to wear lens. i hope it isn't infection for your case. Go to see the doctor is the best idea.
2/20/2007 6:26:43 PM
im getting my last pair of soft contacts before i have to switch to hard contactsyay for astigmatism
2/20/2007 6:34:25 PM
how can you guys sleep with contacts in? My eyes feel wierd the whole night and the next morning my eyes burn and my vision is blurry. Now I take them out everyday. But I manage to wear 2-week lenses for about 2 months.
2/20/2007 6:43:58 PM
you might have pink eye. I just went through the exact same thing and it was pink eye. Are your eyes watering a lot?
2/20/2007 9:12:52 PM
not watering or crusting overjust kinda red around my pupil (outside around the blue part of my eye)
2/20/2007 9:33:20 PM
Yeah that's pretty retarded wearing your contacts for weeks at a time unless they are the special kind. They don't tell you not to just for shits and giggles.....actually my doc even said it was not that good to wear the special kind for a month at a time because of certain problems but whatever.
2/20/2007 9:48:05 PM
I have such terrible astigmatism that, when I had contacts, I had to take them in and out every day. They'd get way too dry otherwise. Not to mention that wearing any contacts for long enough can warp your corneas (which is what happened to me- my eyesight worsened). I just stick with glasses now- it's so much easier to take them off in order to sleep, etc.
2/20/2007 9:57:10 PM
Have you changed contact solution recently? My sister is allergic to one type and that causes a ton of problems. Make sure you don't have the type of solution that was recalled a while back.
2/20/2007 10:24:29 PM
I've been going through this, but it's due to allergies.
2/20/2007 11:38:11 PM
I have Focus Toric contacts. Made to stay in for 30 days but I take them out every night.

2/21/2007 12:03:46 AM
just go to the doc, you only have two eyes
2/21/2007 12:13:41 AM
i wear my contacts a lot more now than i should, just too lazy to get new ones.only thing that sucks is getting eyestrain from staring at a computer all day - then my vision is all blurry when i leave work. when i wake up in the mornings it seems fine though...for a while i just wore contacts when i went out, and i wore glasses to work so i could take them off at the computer. my dr actually said my vision had improved over last time - yay!!!

Wow. If I can get a 15 hour day in with my contacts I've struck gold. 8 hours is about my max without my eyes getting so dry that the contact sticks like glue to my eyeball. I got my eyes checked my 2 different docs and they both said my eyes were healthy so I guess I'm just weird.
2/21/2007 9:58:50 AM
I had this issue a couple of weeks ago. I typically wear my 2 week lenses for about a month with no issue. 2.5 weeks into my last pair, both of my eyes became red and irritated. I used both Visine (which I know isn't good for your eyes, but I was desperate) and Similisan Pink Eye drops, as well as wearing glasses instead of contacts. When the redness only got worse, I went to the doctor who put my eyes under the blacklight and found that I had a couple of scratches on my eye (presumably from the contacts). 1 week of antibiotic drops later and everything cleared up.
2/21/2007 10:47:43 AM
generally, you aren't supposed to wear any contacts to sleep because it prevents oxygen from getting to your eye since most oxygen is absorbed by the tear film on the front of your eye
2/21/2007 1:03:08 PM
^wrong. There have been contacts for a while that allow your eye to breathe almost as well as if nothing were there. They're marketed using that as a main selling pt.
2/21/2007 1:07:11 PM
I wear FreshLook Torics (as I have astigmatism and can't wear the regular FreshLooks anymore) and I usually wear them months at a time....even though they are 2-3 week contact lenses. I can't even tell there's anything on my eye....so I sleep in them and everything. However, I will say, one morning I was trying to change to a new pair one morning before work and I SERIOUSLY RUINED my eye. I took the old one out and put the new one in RIGHT AFTER (not letting my eyes BREATHE) and I guess that solution that the lense comes in plus the new drops I put on it, made my eye feel like someone put a lit match on it. My entire eye was SHUT for 1 WHOLE day. It even was light sensitive for like 2 weeks, not to mention it was red & swollen and was watering for WEEKS. SCARED THE SHIT OUT OF ME. Til' this day, I have no clue as to what I did to it. Guess I know how not to keep in old contacts for a LONG period of time. I think they had been in for like 6 months (including at night when I'm sleeping.) [Edited on February 21, 2007 at 1:09 PM. Reason : .]

Well, I didn't have the money to get anymore at the time and I refuse to ask my parents to pay for anything for me......so I stuck it out. I tried to wear my glasses some at night, but it's all good.
2/21/2007 1:16:53 PM
ha, i would wear my contacts for 6 months at a time, maybe taking them out on a few occasions if my eyes got irritated. My eyes have become accustomed to it and they never give me any trouble. After consulting my optometrist over the years, he always says my eyes are very healthy and show no signs of damage but requests that i take my contacts out as directed. although, one time at the lake, i had been swimming and sleeping in my contacts all week. one night i woke up with a painful scratching sensation on my eyes. i took them out in an half unconscious state and went back to sleep. the next morning i couldn't open my eyes. after an emergency visit, i ripped my cornea out, because it was attached to the lens. i was blind for a week because of patches on both my eyes. I still wear my contacts longer, but have resorted to 8-12 hour periods typically and switching out to glasses. I still sleep in them once or twice a week and my eyes feel more relaxed now.side note: my diopter is: 5.75 and 6.25 can anyone beat that??[Edited on February 21, 2007 at 1:31 PM. Reason : ]
2/21/2007 1:30:18 PM
that is fucked up dudeso did you have corneal transplants or what
2/21/2007 1:39:58 PM
nope, your cornea grows back pretty quickly. in my lifetime i have scratched both of my corneas over 5 times. from sticks to zippers. nevertheless my eyes are healthy at this point.
2/21/2007 1:45:04 PM
^^^ OMG! That might have been what I did! I really think that's what I did. Wow. That sucks...and it was sooooo painful. My eyes was SWOLLEN SHUT for days.

2/21/2007 1:57:02 PM
light in any intensity would hurt my eyes. i had to wear full patches with sun glasses over them. its possible that you scratched it very badly. but if you tore yours out, you would know. its constantly crying until the doctor numbs the surface with a chemical and patches you up. plus you wouldnt be walking around in anything but pitch black for at least 3 days.

2/21/2007 4:58:49 PM
I had to goto the doctor one time because i left mine in for over 6 months straight(they were 2 week disposable contacts) and they got an infection. felt like pink eye and looked like it but was different. The contacts had lil white spots on them when i took them out
2/21/2007 5:01:39 PM
^^nope, that is my diopter for non-astigmatism eyes.

Mine is very similar....
2/22/2007 12:17:39 PM
yeah my contacts are -.25 -4.00 x025 and plano -4.00 x160 - I got screwed in the astigmatism department
2/22/2007 12:50:00 PM
man, you guys sure do make me feel better about how I care for my contacts. I thought I was bad!
2/22/2007 1:20:36 PM
some of you guys are fucking retarded, like it's all gravy until you go blind or something. I tend to value my vision a little more than that.
