Wouldn't reactionary Islam be more appropriate since they are advocating a return to the original message of Islam?
2/18/2007 1:22:09 AM
why the fuck does this matter in the slightest?
2/18/2007 2:35:30 AM
Well, you know, it's like "Radical Republicans"...[Edited on February 18, 2007 at 9:41 AM. Reason : People just think it means "extreme" and not "shooting off to the left"]
2/18/2007 9:41:32 AM
why not evangelical islam?
2/18/2007 9:49:34 AM
^If you are trying to relate islam to christianity, you dont know what you are talking about. They are called "radical" because they interpret all of their text to the letter. Kill the infidels, ect......No evangelical christian interprets the old testament of the bible word for word. The new testament on the other hand (the books with Jesus incase you dont know), is followed. Do you hear any Christians walking around saying, "kill all those against God", because it is in there if you look....
2/18/2007 10:13:10 AM
I really don't think most of us in here have enough knowledge about Islam or are in the position to answer this question.
2/18/2007 1:35:44 PM
^^yes. they live in Idaho, and bomb government buildings. What about that guy who ran to the hills in NC after bombing like 5 abortion clinics. I guess that wasnt a terrorist act since he isnt arab?
2/18/2007 1:41:44 PM
This should just call it "Islam." AMIRITE?! [rimshot!]

I met an old lady that said she "didn't drank" because Jesus said "not to"I then politely reminded her that even Jesus drank wineNeedless to say that it surprising how one small statement can throw into a tailspin 60 odd years of factual ignorance
2/18/2007 2:09:53 PM
Radical and reactionary refer to movement relative to the current status quo.Even if it's radical movement backwards, it's still radical.
2/18/2007 2:25:57 PM
^^ how do people who "read every word of the bible" miss shit like that. honestly. some people amaze me.
2/18/2007 2:41:26 PM
Because they don't understand the King's English.
2/18/2007 2:46:01 PM
as for the alcohol thing, a lot of people say that Jesus drank "new wine"- i.e. not fermented yet. I don't subscribe to this theory myself, but a lot of people do.
2/18/2007 7:11:01 PM
^grape juice?
2/18/2007 7:59:03 PM

comparing the modern age to the middle ages is fucking retarded...
2/20/2007 1:06:55 PM
saying that Islam is a violent religion and christianity is peaceful is just as dumb
2/20/2007 1:08:16 PM
denying that islam is a violent religion is even dumber
2/20/2007 1:14:31 PM
denying that most muslims are peaceful is even dumber than that
2/20/2007 1:16:25 PM
no i think denying that islam is violent is about the dumbest thing possibledont get offended and blow yourself up in protest!
2/20/2007 1:17:45 PM
both islam and christianity have violent and peaceful aspects. the vast majorities of the followers of both religions are peaceful, normal people.to act like islam is a religion that is inherently more violent than any other religion is ignorant.
2/20/2007 1:31:52 PM
Buddhism? They generally only set themselves on fire.
2/20/2007 1:50:38 PM
^^i completely agree that most people of all groups are peaceful and that each group has their own individual bad applesbut i do think modern day radical islam IS more violent than any other religion nowadays with comparable sizei mean the christian right might be crazy idiots but i dont recall seeing them preaching on tv to all their followers that they should commit any type of genocide on jews or americans[Edited on February 20, 2007 at 3:56 PM. Reason : .]
2/20/2007 3:55:57 PM
Check out Jesus Camp. It's pretty close. She pretty much advocates instilling the same values into christian children as they do in suicide bombers.
2/20/2007 3:58:03 PM
well thats pretty fucked up...and if it is what you say it is, part of the reason i havent heard of it is probably because the US is unofficially a Christian nationhowever Iran's leader as well as Al Queda folks have preached their messages of death over Al Jazeera and other huge networks to massive audiences...I'm sure Jesus Camp does similar things but I don't recall them ever getting as large a platform to spread their hatred]
2/20/2007 4:01:00 PM
Pat Robertson calling for the assassination of Chavez among other things?Other fundie preachers spouting hateful rhetoric against homosexuals and non-believers?It may not be the same as killing someone with a bomb, but when you're helping influence foreign policy of the worlds largest economy then withholding money can have huge implications with foreign aid.Look at the numbers of people that starved to death in Iraq.
2/20/2007 4:10:39 PM
but theres a difference in hateful rhetoric, and telling all your fellow muslims that its their duty to kill
2/20/2007 4:14:02 PM
2/20/2007 4:40:18 PM
two things:1. according to the article, nobody has claimed responsibility...so why does the article say "Christian Terrorists"2. can you even begin to fathom the outrage if the article was titled "Muslim Terrorists"
2/20/2007 4:44:52 PM
Because if you do a simple google search you can see that there is an active christian terrorist group in that area.
2/20/2007 4:50:24 PM
I can look in the last paragraph of the article and see that the shit has been going on for yearsBut what I asked about was this instance...where the title of the article says "Christian Terrorists Kill 44" even though:a. theres no linkb. theres nothing in the article to indicate who did this particular attack except for the titlec. most of the people killed were themselves Christiansdoes not compute]

That sounds more like a nationalist movement that happens to be made up of a Christian minority than a religiously driven ideological battle (kind of like the Christian-on-Christian violence in Northern Ireland).
2/20/2007 10:14:38 PM
northern ireland was, at least in part, an idealogical battle. the whole point of referencing it is that it is very very similar to sunni shiite violence.

because he was lazy? it's not that hard to find.also, if it's a local paper (can't remember) it might be common knowledge that it was christian terrorists and maybe they just didn't translate it to make it more PC or general knowledge for someone bent on saying christians are infallible like you.
2/21/2007 9:29:47 AM
i didnt post the link on purpose because I knew everyone would bust a nut regardless.this is a stupid argument because I hate terrorists.why do you support Christian terrorists?
