in general, nothing against this thread, i am sick, FUCKING sick of rules changing in sports... just play the goddamn game... dont alter it and make record-breaking oppurtunities easier on whoever

^^ at least they got rid of those stupid change of possession clock rules they put in last year.I think the TV timeouts are causing the long games.. the NCAA should be setting rules on when they can goto commercial, instead of speeding up the actual game itself[Edited on February 15, 2007 at 8:24 PM. i actually like these changes.for one, it fixes the problem they started this year that basically makes it impossible to come back if the other team kicks it to you with 30 seconds or so left.also, i like the idea of more kickoffs being able to be returned. these days most teams have good kickers so you don't see as many returns. i like the idea that a darrell blackman type will get more chances to run the ball back for us, although it probably means more of the other team doing it to us too

it makes comebacks impossible now because 40 seconds is too long for a playcock. they should have at least added a 2 mintue warning. 40 second play clock is disgusting regardless though. that is wayy too much time.

the 40 second clock starts at the dead ball whistle.. it'll actually help with comebacks. I remember situations where it took forever for the ref to ready the ball for play killing precious time off the clock allowing the winning team with the ball to kill more time with the help of the officials.. It'll also get rid of plays where teams deliberately take their time to get up from piles preventing the ref from starting the play clock until nearly 15-20 seconds passes. In most cases the 40 seconds won't make a difference.. it's about the same time as 25 seconds + 10-15 it takes to ready the ball for play currently.[Edited on February 16, 2007 at 12:18 AM. onside kicks i've seen them wait like a minute or 2 to catch them by surprise
2/16/2007 9:24:59 AM
that's so stupidi've been to over a hundred college football games and i have never once thought to myself "they need to hurry up and kick that ball."

they need to stop changing shit, they do it every year, and everyone bitches every year, just leave it alone!

So is the clock still going to run before the ball is snapped on a change of possesion? That one needs changing back the most.
