I'm trying to link my computer with my roommate's computer using a LAN cable, but it says the network cable is unplugged. I've had this problem before and one of my friends told me to go into the command prompt and type ipconfig/release, then ipconfig/renew after disabling the wireless card. I did that but it said that no operation can be performed on the LAN while its media is disconnected. Also when I plug the cable into the back of my computer none of the lights come on. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

uh, just what are you trying to do with this LAN? if you guys are trying to play each other in unreal tournament or something, just connect a cable between each PC (use a hub for multiple pc's) and you should be able to see each other.if you guys want to share an internet connection, get a router

yeah, we're trying to connect to play a game, but the problem is the computer doesn't even register that a cable is connected. None of the lights come on around the connection point that acknowledge that there is even a cable plugged in. I just need help restoring my LAN connection.

when i play starcraft LAN (yes, i still do sometimes), i get the network disconnect icon too. Have you tried going into the game, creating a match, and seeing if the other pc's can see you?

yeah, we both tried to create a game but the other person couldn't see it. I finally got the network to register that there was a cable, and we both hooked into our router, which showed that we were both connected. I just don't understand why if the router says we are both connected and our computers each are showing an active connection we can't see each other's game in the list.
