i currently have a 19" widescreen samsung 940bw...i've always heard that samsung panels were really good, that they have a pretty long life...however, i'm being given the option of keeping this samsung, getting the 20" widescreen viewsonic VX2035WM for free, or the 22" widescreen viewsonic VX2235WM for $50...opinions on what's the better deal for me? this is equipment i get to keep, though it's being paid for by work...i'd rather end up with the "nicer" piece of hardwaresamsung syncmaster 940BW - no cost:19" widescreendigital/analog500:1 contrast300cd/m2 brightnessviewsonic VX2035WM - no cost:20" widescreendigital/analog800:1300cd/m2viewsonic VX2235WM - $5022" widescreendigital/analog700:1280cd/m2

Viewsonic makes quality equipment, though, I think they used to be better. What's the resolutions for these monitors?Unless the 22" widescreen operates at a higher resolution, I'd get the 20" widescreen.

1680x1050 for both the 20" and the 22"

It was my impression last time i checked (which has been a while) that branding isnt mattering as much with the LCDs because alot of the panels are made by a few companies, and then resold to companies that finish the panels (viewsonic might make their own), your probably going to get a better warranty with a good company brand like viewsonic.

i can't vouch for the viewsonics, but i know you won't regret the samsung.

I've had this Viewsonic 18" LCD (VG800) for about 4 years now and it still works great. I'd say that I'd have no problem getting another one if this one ever dies, but so far it's been great. Back when I bought it, Viewsonic had the best brightness and contrast for the money. Also, Dell and Samsung LCD's are good too.

score another point for Viewsonic:I've had my 17" LCD for 5 years now... only problem is 1 stuck pixel (it was like that out of the box)[Edited on February 12, 2007 at 9:17 AM. Reason : df]

do most people agree that the 20" is the one i should go with? i don't ever really see a difference between contrast ratios and brightness (i'm sure there is one, but i can never really see it)

I would get the 20". There's no point in paying for a 22" that isn't any better. Plus, the 20" is better than the 19".

as per darkone's suggestion, i went with the 20"...in all honesty, because of how closely i sit to the screen, 22" probably would have been too much...i like the monitor, anywaythanks, y'all

Viewsonic made good CRT's, never dealt with a LCD from them.
