Drive it like you stole it or Baby it for the first 1000 miles? Some reputable engine builders I've talked with over the years say to drive the piss out of it while others (including Mike Ellis, who used to own CAM and who I invest my trust with) say to baby it so I don't know what advise to take. All I know is I just can't beat on my truck just yet regardless of how bad I want to. I can't say I've really babied it. I have got on it ~50% throttle just to build some boost and blow out the soot but I still haven't floored it yet. What's y'alls take on engine break-in?Here's a link to the article:http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm

I've read that a while back it seems sound... but we should let the myth busters handle this case.

technology has advanced to the point where it doesn't really matter. when metallurgy wasn't what it is today decades ago, beating on a motor too soon could affect the rings, camshaft, etc.i've pulled apart motors that have been flogged since day one and motors that were babied through the first few thousand, and the difference in condition is negligible.besides, unless you order a vehicle like you did, you're not going to get one that hasn't been abused on a test drive, by a salesman, by a technician, or the detail people.imo, it doesn't make a difference one way or another.

Drive it like ya stole it. Break in is a thing of the past, its broken in once it make a few revolutions. If the clearances arent right you would know in a few mins.[Edited on February 10, 2007 at 7:48 PM. Reason : h]

Everyone knows about the hard break-in thing nowadays but.. isn't it still bad to break in a clutch like that? That's what I always wonder
