My friend wrecked his car and needs to buy a new one today! The only used car place I know of is Carmax, but if anyone has had any success at a local used car dealership please let me know. He wants to finance something decent under $4000, make/model/year don't matter a whole lot, just something reliable.

there are many dealerships on HWY70 headed towards clayton, as well as 401 headed towards fuquay.

i would check out craigslists, autotrader, etc. as well.

Well he just wrecked his brand new Mazda 6 during a lapse in insurance coverage, so he's gotta keep paying that bill and doesn't exactly have anything to trade in. Something decent and reliable under $4k isn't unreasonable, although getting it financed is admittedly kinda weird.

they're also mechanics and they are really picky about inventory

You are not going to find a used car under 4k at any large dealership, including Carmax.

You're probably better off just buying privately at that price level.
