So, I'm looking for a Mazda 3, and I found one that looks fantastic for a great price. But it says on the advertisement:

I'm guessing that means it was stolen, confiscated as part of a criminal investigation, then it was auctioned off by the insurance company to some guy for cheap (after the original owner was already reimbursed so the company had to do something with the car), and now he's making money off of it. The only thing that should probably keep you from buying that would be if the guy who stole it was killed in it (that car would then be cursed and require some voodoo magic).[Edited on February 9, 2007 at 10:31 PM. if the title is clean, then why did the guy even mention about theft recovery?

usually, the titles are branded. i think nc just uses a generic salvage/rebuilt title iirc. i had a truck once that was a theft recovery, and that's what it had.

if the title is "salvage", then you'll have a hard time selling it later on, IMO.

theft recovery in NC is a clean title.just "branded" as vandalized.there is nothing salvage about this car.unless it was also wrecked.you dont even have to mention it was stolen. if you carfax it, i doubt it will show up as vandalized. it will be clear

what if insurance has been payed out and the claim settled, then the vehicle is recovered? i was under the impression that's when the title becomes marked. supposedly, the truck i had sustained no damage other than the ignition cylinder and the steering column trim. it was otherwise never in a wreck. i can't be 100% sure though, this happened before i bought it.

if the title is "branded", does it look any different than a regular title?

i'm not sure if the title even says anything at all. i'm sure it'll show up on carfax though. my mom bought a 4runner that was a theft recovery from baonest's place and she hasn't had a single issue with it.

ok well i got some updated news.recently, any theft recovery bought from insurance is branded salvage, no matter what the condition. back in the days it was different im guessing becaue my car was clear.but a few cars can bea clear titles.--baonest[Edited on February 10, 2007 at 6:29 PM. Reason : ]
