as much as I want to come to State for grad school it looks there's a good chance I'm going to be starting graduate school this fall at UNCG (State doesn't have the program I wanted)

...Can any of you tell me what you know about what there is to do in Greensboro?

I live in Hickory, NC right now and it is lame. I was just hoping that Gboro isn't on the same level of lameness.

(though all in all I guess it all comes down to the academics, blah blah)

Given Charlotte or Raleigh is only about an hour and half drive, you'll be fine. I honestly don't think you'll have the time (or energy) to be messing around a whole heck of alot. Then again, I could be dead wrong, but just a guess.

greensboro is chill, there's something going on on all the typical nights. plenty of movie theatres, plenty of shopping of all types, plenty of bars of all types.... the only thing it really lacks, which is true of raleigh mostly is the college town atmosphere

There are some fun places downtown. Natty Greene's is a great two story bar with TVs, pool tables, and darts. Inferno is a newer club that plays 70s, 80s, and early 90s music. Greene Street is a more trendy club downtown.

There are a lot of great restaurants in Greensboro, as well as cultural events....the music school at UNCG always has something going on.

You won't be as bored in Greensboro as you are in Hickory, but it's definitely not a "college town", which should be ok since you are starting grad school anyway.

I also went to grad school at UNCG.

I'm finishing up my MALS degree at uncg. I live in winston salem, but there's plenty to do in greensboro. Farmers markets and street festivals, lots to do on campus, elm st. and greene st. have some great bars, including the semi-new microbrewery natty green's.

It's no awesome, amazing city, but it'll kick hickory's ass

Maybe I'll see you around there. I applied to graduate school there a couple days ago and I'm crossing my fingers in hopes of getting in. It's no city like Charlotte or Raleigh, but it'll do for graduate school
