billy wrote virtually every note of guitar played by the pumpkins, lead and rhythm.iha is a decent rhythm guitarist but easily replaceablejimmy is always incredibledarcy is just a crack whorei think they do need a chick bass player though[Edited on February 7, 2007 at 1:18 PM. Reason : .]

I read this:
2/7/2007 2:07:13 PM
it doesn't fucking matterthe album would sound no fucking different if iha and darcy were back in the groupthe only difference would be at their shows you'd see an asian dude and a blonde chick up on stage
2/7/2007 2:25:51 PM
whats really odd is that James Iha has been producing a lot with Fountains of Wayne, but for some reason wont get back with billy and jimmy. If there's any fans of the band America out there, James Iha produced their new cd along with Gerry Beckley (america) and Adam Schlesinger.it sounds reallllly goodAmerica- Here and Now. check it out.
2/7/2007 3:00:15 PM
it's like Axl and Dizzy without Slash, Duff, Izzy, or Sorumwhich means "meh"[Edited on February 7, 2007 at 3:10 PM. Reason : it will still be good though, because william corgan can do not much wrong]
2/7/2007 3:10:30 PM
If they get auf der mar as the bassist (like in the machina days) I would be satisfied. Im going to buy it the minute the store opens and love it regardless, but I would really like to see auf der mar since daarcy's cracked out ass wont be back and iha is being a douche and not returning.
2/7/2007 4:02:06 PM
i dont think im going to acknowledge this album...it'll dissapoint me too much and then i'll go into a spiral of depression because it changed my view of one of my favorite bands.
2/7/2007 4:05:15 PM
^I originally felt that way about adore when it came out, but ever since 2002ish when I started listening to adore again I no longer feel that way about it and it is one of my favorites
2/7/2007 4:10:28 PM
I just don't see how you can call it the same band after 50% of the members are gone. I know a lot of bands do that, but still.Even though you say some of these members are replaceable, they defintely had a little bit of say in what goes on, what notes are played, ideas for different parts, etc. So its never really the same.
2/7/2007 4:46:17 PM
James had a little bit of input, but D'arcy had absolutely none. Billy played 90% of the stuff in the studio anyway, so the album won't sound any different than it probably would've with James. It all comes down to songwriting. There are some decent songs on the Zwan album and some real stinkers...I'm excited.
2/7/2007 5:25:01 PM
its hard to short change how important iha was to my love affair with the pumpkinsi loved pretty much every iha song. Without his input, i will probably not like this albumI will give it a shot though
2/7/2007 9:35:43 PM
^ I absolutely agree.
2/7/2007 9:55:32 PM
I love all the Iha songs, too (I have a particular soft spot for "The Boy") but he wasn't exactly pivotal in the creation of the SP sound. "Settle Down" from the Zwan album has all the late-era SP parts and James didn't have a single thing to do with it.
2/8/2007 12:55:25 AM
^the boy is a great song. honestly my fav song with iha is farewell and goodnight, where they all sing except for jimmy.anyway, I greatly miss iha as a pumpkin, luckily he is in a perfect circle who I like as well.bottom line though, its the smashing pumpkins, I will buy the album, I will play the shit out of it, I will see the tour, I will love it. even if it is not the same as it was.
2/8/2007 5:08:02 PM
^ last I heard, APC is dead. But I could be wrong, that came out around the time of the 10,000 Days release.
2/8/2007 7:40:00 PM
favorite iha track : "Said Sadly" off of the "Bullet with Butterfly Wings" single2nd place: the entire "1979" b-side collection[Edited on March 24, 2007 at 4:00 PM. Reason : whoops]
3/24/2007 4:00:16 PM
Not only do I love "The Boy" and "Believe," but I'm of the opinion that "Set the Ray to Jerry" is one of the most underappreciated SP tracks in the catalog.

^GTFO with that bulllshitwe know its not "the pumpkins" as they originally werebut that commentary about billy corgan being a factor in kobain's suicide is way off. Does the dude not remember how kobain was, depressed pretty much all the time, not to mention a junkie. What a cheap shot at billy.
4/10/2007 3:21:58 AM
^He's off base with the Cobain shit, but he's dead on with the Zwan reference. There truly is nothing different between this new set up and Zwan. Both this and Zwan were Corgan, Chamberlain and then some random fucks.I can't get excited about this album without Iha.
4/10/2007 8:44:53 AM
IMO, this is just semantics. Zwan was never meant to be TSP, it was a separate project. In Corgan's letter in the Chicago Tribune, he says he wants his band back while referring to The Future Embrace as something independent of the Pumpkins. So it might be a similar line up, but I think he wants that Smashing Pumpkins sound back. Even though it's "Zwan 2.0", I think it will be better than Mary Star of the Sea was...more hard rock than eclectic art rock.I'll give it a chance, but I'm not going to build my expectations up like I did for both of his previous releases. However I am hoping for more Cherub Rock / Rocket type tracks this time around.(Oh and the release is the day before my birthday, so it will be a good present for me!)

When Corgan announced the album, Bodog.com had a bet if BOTH James AND D'arcy would be in the lineup. I was about to sign up just to take what was basically a free handout.

I'm still not sold on this whole reunion thing, but in case someone else is, I thought I'd post some info I just got:
