The student must be able to solder, use a multimeter and an oscilloscope, and read electrical schematics. The hours are flexible, pay starts at $12/hr (dep. on experience).PM me for more info.

12 bucks an hour? are intern jobs that hard to find?

$12/hr is pretty shitty for a technical coop, sorry...
2/4/2007 10:20:22 PM
looking for any full-time people?
2/4/2007 10:55:08 PM
The entire point of the co-op isnt to make money. Its only a few months of your life and it may be worth much more if you dont sound like an idiot during an interview"Yeah i zapped the plastic edges of cell phones with an ESD gun......but i made 18$ an hour"
2/5/2007 8:24:49 AM
"Yeah i developed HDL test fixtures for a multi-million gate network encryption microprocessor ...... and i made 18$ an hour"theres a lot of great opptys for interning, and they pay good money. 12/hr is pretty low. you'll get someone, to be sure, but probably not the sharpest stick in the bag.
2/5/2007 11:30:55 AM
^exactly^^coops are cheap labor for companies, but companies should be aware that there is still competition for their employees. Just as Joe said, $12/hr might not get the sharpest stick when other companies are paying $15-$20/hr. Lets not forget the benefits of COOPs for companies, its not a one way street. Money is always part of the equation.

$16/hr is much higher than $12/hr
2/5/2007 12:53:22 PM
You guys are morons if you scoff at jobs. $12 hr maybe too low for you, but for someone else who hasn't found anything it may actually be perfect. You know, 12$ > 0 . Also, don't throw in your shit anecdotal evidence as some sort of proof of fact to support what you're saying. If you're a coop, we all know you don't do anything important. Don't hide it.
2/5/2007 1:16:52 PM
It says more than once in the thread that it pays $12/hr for someone with zero experience. From there, it depends on relevant experience. If you've worked in a lab before, pay will be higher.
2/5/2007 1:20:25 PM
^^maybe not at your COOP. Where is your proof that all COOPs do useless tasks? Is it buried in the COOP(s) you had where you did not pursue opportunities? Misery loves company doesn't it?

^yes and a few of the many reasons I will get hired:-Bonuses, awards, etc from my COOPs-Letters of recommendation written by my managers, team leads, customers ive dealt with, and coworkers - none of which were written at my request.-The hard work I put into each job and the work I did that paralleled the actual position.See unlike the naysayers on here, I work/worked hard at all my COOPs and did not use it to just pad my resume. Its all about how hard you try, so don't lecture me about waiting until I "get a real job" just because you took the easy way out.
2/5/2007 2:02:56 PM
i hope you don't assume you're going to get a job like you are assuming about me.
2/5/2007 2:05:59 PM
NoI know because I've talked with managers at four different companies here in RTP as well as knowing plenty of College coops myself. You can describe solder monkeying or visio translation as "worked in creating and implementing complex hardware designs" as much as you want but rest assured you really aren't fooling anybody.FWIW, my roommate and I actually did a lot more development then most of you will do in your full blown careers, and even that wasn't critical or career defining by any stretch of the imagination. The point I'm trying to make is simple: do not scoff at job opportunities that your peers may be interested in; even if you know of better ones. Its only an advantage to the entire WolfWeb if more posts like this are made.
2/5/2007 2:07:32 PM
^^the assumption was made before you edited your post, give me any reason to assume that you tried during your COOP - definitely not apparent by what you posted[Edited on February 5, 2007 at 2:08 PM. Reason : .]
2/5/2007 2:08:01 PM
^^nobody scoffed at anything, it was just stated that $12/hr is low for a tech COOPYou can describe your experiences with COOPs all you want, but you are still generalizing. You cannot say across the board that COOPs are useless and don't do anything important.
2/5/2007 2:10:40 PM
I love how you hijacked this thread to a "let me justify myself" topic. Honestly, you could win the Nobel Prize and it still wouldn't give you a reason to dismiss a technical job posting as trash, save for being a pretentious prick.
2/5/2007 2:10:43 PM
maybe you shouldnt assume anything. then you wouldnt look stupid.
2/5/2007 2:11:20 PM
I love how you hijacked this thread into "COOPs are useless."Nobody dismissed this job posting...I did intially click on the topic right?Maybe you shouldn't post generalizations, then you wouldn't look stupid.

A LOT of smaller companies that don't have structured co-op programs hire one or two interns/co-ops at rates than some would consider low. I mean, from the job description this doesn't look like a massively technically involved job. But, it would be a great starting point on a resume.
