Ok, so I'm in the market for something much more fuel efficient than my Pathfinder and I'm feeling like downsizing. Right now my two choices are a RSX or a Celica, both are going to be about 4 years old (since that's what I can afford... ~14k) and both with the base engines for insurance purposes. Both are reliable. The Celica holds it's value better. Gas milage on the Celica beats the RSX by a few. RSX has more power, but weighs over 200lbs more. RSX also has more standard equpiment, but the nicer trim packages of the Celica are comparable.I'm also open to suggestions of other similar options...

Celica holds value better than RSX? That's surprising. I guess maybe because they aren't making Celicas anymore?
2/2/2007 2:10:55 PM
Oh, and I forgot to mention that whatever I get will be manual trans.
2/2/2007 2:13:18 PM
RSX.

You've named 4 pluses for the Celica and gave a back handed compliment to the RSX. It pretty much sounds like you've made your mind up.For what its worth, I don't think the celica has aged well at all. The day they came out ,I thought they looked silly. Today, I think they look down right cheap. No, the trim levels of the Celica don't touch the RSX simply because the celica uses plastics that seem like they were bought straight from a GM catalog. If you want a celica, then get one. I'd take the RSX over it in a heartbeat.
2/2/2007 2:40:29 PM
Well my opinions were based off internet research, I'd like to test drive both.So it sounds like the fit and finish on the RSX is better...am I right?
2/2/2007 3:01:37 PM
I save my money and get an Integra type R, which looks and holds value better than both.
2/2/2007 3:09:25 PM
They don't make the Integra anymore...it was replaced by the RSX
2/2/2007 3:13:42 PM
i just think the last gen. celica is ugly as fuck.
2/2/2007 3:30:33 PM
^^yes, that's why I said get an integra.
2/2/2007 3:37:41 PM
havent they stopped production of RSX too because they are replacing it with a 2 door version of the TSX?
2/2/2007 3:46:56 PM
Yeah, they stopped making RSX's. Haven't heard about a new 2 door yet, maybe I just missed it. I think celica's are kind of girly... Especially if it doesn't have the aero package that comes with the GTS. So I'd take the RSX.
2/2/2007 3:51:29 PM
I had a 2002 RSX type S and i loved it...interior was great! styleing was really sleak.
2/2/2007 3:53:27 PM
last gen celicas suck. u might be able to save them with a set of rimsi dont like the last gen rsx's either though..if u get a celica. do urself a favor get a manual gt. much more fun that the gt-s' keeping the gt-s's in vvti I hear can be a bitch. also they are gutless down low relative to the gt.an auto gt-s is also slow than the manual and auto gt go figure.

Just drive em both and see which one you like more. Either one is fine.

^I like the older integra more though (3G).
2/2/2007 6:54:17 PM
RSX
2/2/2007 7:23:14 PM
rsx has more power but too me it seemed a little more cramped than the celicaand how in the world do the celicas keep their value more than the rsx? if i remember right, the rsx was cheaper in the first place so that might be throwing you off a bit
2/2/2007 7:51:49 PM
comparing the lowe trim levels, I would prefer an RSX. Although I do see bitches driving both.

I'm considering selling my RSX type-S in the next month or so if my wife decides she doesn't want to drive the 6 speed. It's an '05 with 22.5k miles on it... i'll shoot you a PM if we decide to let go of her. For what it's worth, the RSX has been a real solid car for me for the last two years. It's a surprisingly fast and comfortable car while still getting a solid 28 mpg if you keep it below vtec range. I'd pick it over a celica (or new TC) in a heartbeat.I was actually at the scion dealer ready to buy a TC, i specced it out to how i wanted it and then was met by scion's 'no haggle' price is what it is blahbitty blah policy. So i went to the Acura dealer across the street for shits and giggles, and all it took was a test drive before i realized how much nicer the RSX felt. I'm willing to bet you'd agree if you test drove both as well.

2/3/2007 2:52:25 AM

While these all may be "girl cars", what else can anyone suggest something else that will get me >32 mpg highway without being slow as a brick? If anyone says Corolla, I will shoot them.

RSX, but you dont seem secure enough in your manhood to drive one now

The Celica isn't the best example of Toyota's work. And I'm actually a little surprised that a Celica has better resell value than an RSX.
2/3/2007 8:39:41 PM
GTI?

^i like those

Before I got my RSX (I ended up with an '03 type-S), I test drove that, a Celica GTS, and just for kicks, an Eclipse GTS as they were all pretty comperable as far as manufacturers claims, and price range. As far as how they were equipped and the way they drove, the RSX was miles ahead of the other two in my opinion. That being said, after having seen a few base model RSX's they definately put considerably more into the type-S. An '03 type-S could be had with just a little looking around though for the price range you're talking about though. Mine was a little high milage (65k) when I traded it in over the summer but the value was in the range you were talking about. Private party value was around $14k. My insurance only went up about $10 a month going from a '95 Eclipse RS to the '03 type-S. If your agent is telling you its going to be a big price jump, you might want to look around and get quotes from other companies.
