I've done work on the side for quite some time now, I am still available but am somewhat selective on what I would work on.

Yep, here i am in Bath. Where there's one grocery store, and it looks like a bait shop. But they don't sell bait.

i could do the clutch, but im not messing with internals of a transmission.

a bad clutch and a bad synchro typically exhibit pretty different issues.

what exactly is it doing?

true.

if its slipping, then its a pretty easy fix.

if its grinding, then its not a pretty easy fix.

but who knows, some nigs on here love transmissions, and can rig up a synchro job for you. haha

could be slave/clutch master too if it's grinding.

hmmm. well yeah, the clutch would just quit. i had that happen to me once. i got lucky and changed it within a few feet of it happening.

it only grinds whenever I shift into 5th gear. Seriously, I'm not sure what's really wrong with it. Might need somebody to drive and diagnose it.

5th...?

integras are known for 3rd gear grind. or 2nd, i dont remember.

how many miles do you have?

damn.

IMO, i would skip out on the synchro job (if it actually is the synch).. i would swap out the honda MTF with some GM synchromesh. it will "hide" the grind for who knows how long. 93K is kinda low, but then again its 5th gear. im cheap, so i would wait long until other gears start to grind. but thats me.

how bad is the clutch slipping??

maybe wait til 100K, and do a full 100K service.

the clutch doesn't slip that much. Sometimes, I have trouble shifting into either 1st or reverse (mostly reverse) from dead stop. What does the full 100K service consist of?

well its really at 90K,

you can service it anytime. but i just like even intervals if you can wait another 7K.

or you can do it at 95K..

first things first, i would flush the tranny fluid and either replace it with honda MTF. and see if that fixes and thing, and also bleed your clutch. start fresh. and from there you can kinda see whats going on.

or you can put some of that synchro mesh. ive never actually used it, but a lot of people do, it doesnt help or anything, it just hides the grinding. so its basically for people who wanna sell a car and hide a buncha noise .

oh and the service consists of pretty much everything from timing belt to distributer cap and rotor.

yeah, change the oil and put the synchro mesh it. if it does have a synchro going bad, that will help it live a while longer and help the grinding.

sounds like it may be a clutch master or slave going bad though, especially since you mentioned having a problem with 1st/reverse at a stop. you wouldn't notice it as much at speed in the other gears.

you think you can flush the tranny for me? I've never done it before, and don't want to do something completely new by myself. The car drives fine beside the annoying 5th gear grinding, and occasionally difficult shifting into reverse.

tomorrow when its day light out, open up your clutch resevior, its the smaller of the two reseviors on drivers side firewall, and look and see what color the fluid is and if you can see if its clean or dirty.

it should be pretty clear and clean.

it might be gunked up.

also, if you have basic tools and a jack and stands, then you can change the tranny fluid yourself.

its acutally realllly easy on these cars.

its about as easy as changing the oil.

but yeah. you may want to start small and change the master and/or slave cyl. first to see if anything will change.

there really isnt any way of messing it up.

i can send you some pages from the acura service manual if you want.

sounds like your clutch issue is the master cylinder if the fluid is ok, slave cylinder if the fluid is leaking out, timing belt isnt too bad to do on that car, i would reccomend just getting the sunroof down right and pulling the fuse, and what the hell is up with the dash? thats kinda vague
