I searched the other threads and even posted this question in the official speeding ticket thread but no one responded. How long do they normally give you to pay a speeding ticket? I always thought it was a month or so but I was pulled on the 15th and have to pay by the 1st (ticket was for 9 over so I'm just going to pay it). I was just about to write a check to send them when I realized it said it cannot be a personal check. Well I don't have the money in my account to pay the $180 in official check until I get paid on the 30th. So do you think if I call and ask they would give me an extra couple of days to pay it?
1/25/2007 9:32:21 AM
the 30th is before the 1st, so just pay it after you get paid
1/25/2007 9:45:18 AM
I got pulled in SC so I'm going to have to mail the check.Sorry, forgot to put that in there
1/25/2007 9:46:31 AM
you should really look into hiring a lawyer, they arent as expensive as you think and they can prolly get it reduced to a non moving violationbe well worth it man
1/25/2007 9:55:42 AM
even if the officer already knocked it down? He said he clocked me doing 87 in a 70 but wrote the ticket for 79.If so, anyone know any good lawyers in SC around the Spartanburg area?
1/25/2007 10:01:52 AM
does it just have to be postmarked by the 1st? if so, you're fine.
1/25/2007 10:13:17 AM
No, it says it must be received in their office before my court date
1/25/2007 10:35:42 AM
sounds like your fucked
1/25/2007 12:18:53 PM
they just keep adding late fees. i didn't pay for one for like, 2 1/2 yeahrs and it was an extra $75 to pay for it.
1/25/2007 12:22:50 PM
except they can suspend your license. We just found out that my wife's license has been suspended for almost 2 years now because she was late paying a ticket and we don't ever recall getting a notice to pay a fee
1/25/2007 12:35:47 PM
get a lawyer. its well worth it. and if you hvaen't received oodles and oodles of junk mail from lawyers yet, then you will soon.
1/25/2007 1:12:04 PM
Statutorily u have 20 days to comply w/ fees and court costs.
1/25/2007 3:35:00 PM
as long as it's post dated they don't fight it.
1/25/2007 3:41:36 PM
You should probably ask a lawyer but I think you can get that thrown out. If he clocked you at one speed and wrote a different speed that is against the rules I think or something like that. I used to work for Dept of Public Safety and HighWay Patrol and I found out a ton of tickets are thrown out because of misspellings on the ticket or just invalid information like incorrect addresses. Look into it, it may save you points on your license and money paying the ticket.
1/25/2007 3:54:50 PM
If it's under 10 MPH on the ticket it won't affect insurance will it, in other words, paying the fine will end the issue?

^depnds man i hear according to insurance agents it depends on the insurance company.... and what if he gets another one in 6 months... going to be wishing he had the other one reduced to a non moving violationi suggest getting a lawyer and it reduced... nothing like a clean recordyour call though
1/25/2007 4:48:29 PM
lawyer up. Its worth the money. If you get another ticket in three years, you will get points from this ticket and that ticket as well.http://www.ncsu.edu/student_affairs/legal_services/legaldocs/Trafficpoints.htm
1/25/2007 6:42:38 PM
They were pulled in SC. NC laws won't necessarily apply.
1/25/2007 6:55:27 PM
my lawyer fee was actually less than what the court cost and fee would have been without the lawyer
1/25/2007 8:31:10 PM
1/25/2007 8:33:39 PM
Typically, yes, but this is the exception. Just about every state will report out of state speeding tickets back to the home state.
1/25/2007 8:37:25 PM
as said above, the cop did you a BIG favor by writing the ticket for only 9 over. count your blessings and cut your losses while you're ahead.
1/25/2007 8:56:54 PM
my rates went up with my 9 over because i lost my safe driver discount, no i really wish i fought it
1/25/2007 9:03:19 PM
that's kind of different situation though; your actual rates didn't technically go up, you just lost your specialized discount. they went back to what they should've been all along.
1/25/2007 9:05:20 PM
right, which is how they are allowed to do itand why your advice might not be the best
1/25/2007 9:06:05 PM
yeah i understand that.he also never said he had a safe driver discount
1/25/2007 9:27:56 PM
Sorry, I should have posted this.

i got a 9 over last year (i didnt try to reduce it) and a 30 over this year and was able to have the 30 over reduced, so i dont think thats right. and you all say its not worh the time, but it just takes a few minutes. go before lunch and you will be back in the parking deck within 20 minutes.
1/25/2007 11:08:27 PM
its 9 over just get the envelope postmarked by the 1st, and send it to make sure it's there before your courtdate.I seriously doubt anything bad will come from it not being in the office on exactly the 1st, at worst a late fee of some amount.
1/25/2007 11:31:10 PM
i completely understand the difference of license points and insurances points, dont talk at me like i dontthing is i am speaking from exp with 2 tickets for 9 under and one out of state!!!I know what happensdifferent insurance companies do different thingsgood for you you stupid fuck state farm didnt say anything does that mean the rest of the insurance companies are going to do the same? most like not idiot![Edited on January 26, 2007 at 8:17 AM. Thanks for the responses. And for those wondering, I have USAA insurance and I do not have a safe driver discount.
1/26/2007 8:34:01 AM
most lawyers you can get to work on your case for like 200, 220, 250 to get it reduced to a non-moving violation and that INCLUDES the court costseven if it doesnt it is well worth it to get it reduced then if by some reason you happen to get another one in 3 years your record is cleanbut fuck what do i know most of tww people here have a crystal ball and can read their and your future... so your call man, you ultimatly have to make the decision
1/26/2007 10:49:36 AM
^^ and people in hell don't want ski jackets. Go down there on a weekend, pay your ticket, take a mini-vacation.

^^ you obviously did not read my very first post
1/26/2007 1:53:36 PM
I would go with a lawyer - I recently had a ticket for 25 over, which means deep shit for me, but because the last ticket I had for 15 over got reduced to improper equipment(with a lawyer), it didn't even show up on my record. So, by having a lawyer for my previous ticket, I managed to get *another* improper equip on the 25 over, just by taking a defensive driving course because to the court it looked like my first one ever. If I had just ponied up on the other one, I'd have been fucked for sure.Moral of the story - everyone speeds, and you'll eventually get caught, so you best watch your ass on the small tickets because it goes a long way in your favor if you ever get a big one.

^^ just looked at a calendar I keep thinking the 31st is on a Saturday for some reason... prob b/c payday is usually on Fridaymy bad[Edited on January 27, 2007 at 2:28 PM. Reason : ~]

apparently no one read the thread he got a ticket for 9 over, just pay it off, get the envelope dated the 31st or 1st, they don't care if it's a day late because it would cost a ton to make it an issue. I have USAA also and it wont effect you, you can also get more tickets without effect as long as you get it reduced to 9 or less
1/28/2007 4:43:27 AM
yeah. i didn't really read it. i admit it. sorry. guilty as charged.
1/28/2007 4:51:57 AM
omg i have never seen so much stupid legal advice in one thread. even for tww. i won't waste my time on it all, just point out the most important piece. it's SOUTH CAROLINA people. pay the damn thing and forget about it, they don't report shit to nc unless you don't pay the ticket. then your license is suspended until you pay, then you get to take an official proof of payment to the dmv and pay a ~$70 fee to get it back. you do typically have a few days grace period before nc dmv would be notified of non payment though.[Edited on January 28, 2007 at 8:02 AM. Why don't you just call the Clerk of Court and ask for a continuance so you can get the money or figure out what else you're gonna do...
1/29/2007 5:57:55 AM
I don't want to create another speeding thread, so I will just bump this one. (it's the only one not locked/too old)I just got my first ticket, pulled for going 93 in a 60. The officer told me he bumped it down to 75 in a 60 because I was "not wearing a tar heel shirt" (I was wearing a wolfpack shirt). On one part of the ticket it says I was going 75 in a 60, but in the "Departmental Use Only" part it says I was going 93. In a normal 15-over ticket I would just go to the DA and get it dropped to 9 over, but will the 93 mph part screw things up?
3/12/2007 9:34:22 AM
it all depends on the DA and your driving record[Edited on March 12, 2007 at 10:15 AM. Reason : .]
3/12/2007 10:08:38 AM
The dude probably wrote in the 93 to let the court know not to reduce it anymore. Or he was just fuckin around with ya.
