Quote :
"Hillsborough — A man accused of driving a sport utility vehicle into a crowd of people at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in March last year pleaded not guilty Wednesday.

Mohammed Taheri-azar is charged with nine counts of attempted first-degree murder and nine counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill in connection with the March 4 incident. If convicted, he could face up to 100 years in prison.

Taheri-azar said he drove through "The Pit," a popular gathering place on campus, to avenge the deaths of Muslims around the world.

No one was seriously hurt.

During a court hearing earlier this month, Taheri-azar told a judge that he would "like to get this whole court trial over with as early as possible."

Orange County District Attorney Jim Woodall said Wednesday that he would likely subpoena members of the media if the case goes to trial. Shortly after Taheri-azar's arrest, he sent letters explaining his alleged actions.

Taheri-azar is currently being held at Central Prison in Raleigh on a $5.5 million bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for March 27 when lawyers present their pre-trial motions.

Well, he plead not guilty. I wonder what his new reason for driving an SUV through "The Pit" will be? The original reason "to avenge the deaths of Muslims around the world" obviously won't fly.

He tried to pledge a friend of mine's fraternity at UNC. They would not take him because he did too many drugs.

I think the most suprising thing about this story is that his name is Mohammed.

But i think his best defense would be to claim he is an NC State fan. The Red/White song line saying "go to hell carolina" inspired him to take it literally. He can claim insanity due to the fact that NC state fans are driven crazy by NC state sports shenanigans (sp?). Then hope for an NCSU fan on the jury. haha

If I was judge, I would sentence him to strap a bomb to himself and give him courtside tickets to the UNC/Maryland game at the Dean Dome.

lol

In all seriousness though, I wouldn't be surprised if he's banking on having some muslim advocacy group or ACLU stepped in to provide lawyers and "support" for him.

please believe someone will claim that he is only on trial because he is a muslim...that whole "driving an SUV into a group of people" thing has been blown way out of proportion

Does he have a lawyer?

And I was thinking what TreeTwista10 thought when I saw this...

What is wrong with this kid? He's going to prison either way. If he really wants to get it over with, he shoulda plead guilty. He's acting like he made a little mistake or something, like he got caught with drugs or got drunk and flashed a cop...

I swear, if those hippie ACLU fuckers defend this guy I may just have to suicide bomb some people myself...

but not really.

1) He's Muslim, so naturally he's a terrorist
2) He's Arab, so naturally he's a terrorist
/sarcasm
3) Main Entry: ter·ror·ism
Pronunciation: 'ter-&r-"i-z&m
Function: noun
1 : the unlawful use or threat of violence esp. against the state or the public as a politically motivated means of attack or coercion
2 : violent and intimidating gang activity <street terrorism> —ter·ror·ist /-ist/ adj or noun —ter·ror·is·tic /"ter-&r-'is-tik/ adjective
4) He said he did it as revenge, not to incite fear so I guess technically he wouldn't be a terrorist. But still.

not everything the aclu does is terrible

they are a civil liberties watch group, and they try to protect the rights of the minority
they would most likely argue that this guy gets a fair trial, not that what he did was justified

Idk, having a SUV barrelling at me when I'm just chillin in the Pit seems kinda scary/fear-inciting.

the ACLU sucks... and that just plain pisses me off that this guy would plead not guilty. let him sit in a 6 by 6 for a while since he's in such a big hurry to get his trial over with.

that sounds like a very unbiased site that is worth my time
reading the first few sentences of their home page lets me know they are horribly inaccurate

Dude tried to buy a gun from the gun store I used to work at. but he didn't because of all the paperwork and waiting periods. we had to talk to the FBI about it after this happened.
