I was surprised at the noms that the departed got. Picking markey mark out of that ensemble for the one acting nomination was surprising to me (not that he didn't deserve it!). Damon or DiCaprio could have easily been nominated. Also Affleck in Hollywoodland should have been nominated imho.

I thought Dreamgirls was going to get a nomination for Best Picture, but it didn't.

Im glad Ryan Gosling and Paul Greengrass got something for those films. Still cant believe Cuarón didnt get a directing nod. Go these people not even watch the films?

Water should beat out Pan's Labyrinth for best foreign language film, but I know it won't.

If Curse of the Golden Flower doesn't win costume design, something is terribly amiss. I guess I'd settle for Marie Antoinette.

I got my ballet and im already trying to fill it out. Some really tough categories though (Best Picture, Supporting Actress, Costume Design, etc.).

Suprised The Fountain got no love when many critics listed it as a top 10 movie from 2006.

^^ Oh shit, I didn't even notice. That's just wrong. WRONG. They should've gotten a nod for visual effects if nothing else.

It should have gotten a best soundtrack nod at least. Clint Mansell + Mogwai = Money.

And it took best song

T-minus 4 seconds until the NAACP writes up a conspiracy theory, and they should. That song is utter rubbish. I've heard more technical / moving songs on a Justin Timberlake CD.

i loved the montage and presentation for ennio morricone, the music he created for the good the bad and the ugly, once upon a time in the west, and the untouchables is just phenomenal and its one of the reasons i can watch those movies over and over again.

really happy that forest whitaker won.

i'm really happy that thelma schoonmaker won and of course martin scorosese finally getting his best director oscar but...

he definitely got it for the wrong film. what was that quote they announced something like "scorsese has said that the departed was the worst movie he's made with a plot"?

did i hear that wrong?

overall the rest of the awards were well deserved and a few were very predictable.

Ditto. Mostly for Days of Heaven.

Well yeah, probably. But honestly, it's much better late than never. <3 Marty

Not a terribly shitty year- I'm still a little peeved that Water didn't win best foreign film.

I agree, Children of Men had some damn-good cinematography, I was really pulling for it. But I'm still suprised that The Fountain got no love in that category.

The "car scene" along in Children of Men should've took home an award...I felt like I was the one getting mobbed in the movie theater

And WTF was that potshot about "first movie w/ a plot?" Clearly I don't understand the definition of plot, b/c I could've sworn his other movies had one.

Why are you people fussing over that? Scorsese said it himself at the DGAs.

Okay, so for the 99.5% of the population that DIDN'T know that, the announcer just blasted it like it was common knowledge. Seriously, of all the things in the world you could say about someone, that was a retarded choice all the way around.

If you LISTENED, the announcer said "He said it was the only movie he had done that had a plot." Honestly, I didn't watch the DGAs and remembered. The announcer wasn't bashing him at all, he was telling you one of those "interesting factoid" things as he went up to receive his award. No big deal.

as far as the original song goes. i predicted (correctly i think) that all the dreamgirls' votes would get split up because there were 3 nominations without one clear standout. that leaves two songs, and inconvenient truth is the obvious choice because hollywood likes lesbians and democrats.

It was Diane Keaton that said it, not some male announcer.

I would have bet the farm on him winning that award.

Ocar voters & majority of Hollywood = big time liberals
Al Gore and his movie = inaccurate alarmist liberal crap

big surprise.

I'm really glad that Scorcese finally won. I didn't watch the Oscars as I was en route back from vermont, but I probably wouldn't have watched them anyway

and these oscars were so goddamn preachy. when the philanthropist bitch started saying "that is what is so great about hollywood..." i just FF'ed my dvr b/c i didnt want to listen to some bitch act like movie people are the only ones who give any money. and just in general, you are artists not pundits/politicians (well except for one i guess) stop giving us your fucking opinion. especially stop preaching about "green" like you didnt just take a limo to the oscars and fly a private jet everywhere.
