You can shit on this movie, you can hate on it as well. There are few people I know who I can discuss this movie. I hate that fact. Dish it out... I'll take it.

What about it?And what's the difference between shitting on and hating on a movie?[Edited on January 20, 2007 at 9:38 PM. Reason : ]

it was a boring knock-off of private ryanboring as shit - boring != artsy
1/20/2007 9:46:03 PM
It's easy for our generation to not understand Terrance Malick's direction. There is a reason few people love this movie.
1/20/2007 9:46:59 PM
no, i understand.money is a powerful motivator and the private ryan box office was very noticable
1/20/2007 9:52:55 PM
i got it
1/20/2007 10:15:31 PM
Badlands was a good movie.
1/20/2007 11:11:39 PM
it might have been better received had it not been so close to SPR, which was a far better movie. i was also not that intrigued by this one.
1/20/2007 11:35:55 PM
this thread is a grammar catastrophe
1/21/2007 12:02:16 AM
It's a great movie. It's as great a movie as this thread is shitty.

Incidentally, the term was coined after the Battle of Balaclava when a group of Scottish Highlanders held of overwhelming numbers of the finest Russian Cavalry. This was also the same battle of the infamous charge of the Light Brigade.Balaclava was an otherwise forgettable batlle except for two of the most memorable moments in military history. (The charge of the Light Brigade was noted for its idiocy and the fact that the commander knew it was so before sending his light cavalry through essentially a gaunlet of cannon fire, but did it anyway because he was following orders.)
1/21/2007 2:08:10 AM
i love the movie. you can't even begin to compare it to saving private ryan. the only similarities between the two is that they both take place during WWII.
1/21/2007 6:22:21 AM
and that TRL is a direct rip-off of SPR
1/21/2007 8:42:22 AM
the only flick that ever caused me to walk out of a theater before the film ended.A pointless piece of crap with one worthless flashback after another. [Edited on January 21, 2007 at 9:24 AM. Reason : fff]
1/21/2007 9:22:49 AM
It's slow, lacking in a lot of the things that keep the common movie audience entertained. That said, it's actually a good flick. Just not something I can watch every day.
1/21/2007 10:00:48 AM
im not saying it was terrible either, just that it is obviously gonna draw comparison to saving private ryan when they were released so close to each other(what was it, a few weeks or something?). saving private ryan was a more entertaining film, thus most people will like the thin red line that much less.
1/21/2007 10:14:42 AM
oh goddamnit don't pull this shitjust because a movie is boring as hell and everyone hates it, doesn't mean its got some hidden value that only you, a deep-thinking college student, can discern
1/21/2007 10:15:23 AM
I'm going to allow the possibility that I'm more profound than the human being who thought a username resembling a penis was the best idea.
1/21/2007 10:30:35 AM
it was boring.
1/21/2007 11:08:48 AM
crede is the worst kind of person who can be intimidated by the director into thinking a movie is cool and intelligentsame kind of shit went down with Garden State
1/21/2007 11:37:31 AM
Great fucking movie. It's only boring to people with no attention spans.[Edited on January 21, 2007 at 12:33 PM. Reason : .]
1/21/2007 12:32:48 PM
yes, cuz the only movies i love are ones with no plot and lots of explosions
1/21/2007 12:47:04 PM
I didn't say that. Boring movies can have lots of explosions- Equilibrium was fucking boring but it had a million action scenes.
1/21/2007 1:05:58 PM
equilibrium as a whole was, but the first few action sequences rocked hard. though i guess it is possible you just didnt have the attention span for equilibrium, heh.
1/21/2007 1:54:19 PM
1/21/2007 2:10:22 PM
1/21/2007 2:27:04 PM
and how about the username resembling the worst band to ever contaminate radio frequencies
1/21/2007 2:39:36 PM
Band of Brothers....'nough said

Not to mention that SPR had little to do with the contrast between nature and civilization, too. TRL at least looks at more interesting issues than just your standard wartime horrors fare.
1/21/2007 7:24:26 PM
and it was a remake of a movie from the 60s. (albeit that it was very different from its 60s counterpart).
1/21/2007 8:58:04 PM
it was not a remake. you take that back.I think one of the central points the movie questions is: we are one fucked up species; we have ideals only to see these ideals be shattered by our own. Therefore, what the fuck are we fighting for?
1/21/2007 9:20:23 PM
all versions were based on the 1962 autobiography of the same name
1/21/2007 9:35:01 PM
this is true, but let's face it... terrance malick would make romeo of "romeo and juliet" gay if he wanted to.
1/21/2007 9:37:11 PM
One of the very few movies that I pure, straight despise.
1/21/2007 10:25:44 PM
1/21/2007 11:27:57 PM
I'm sorry you don't like nice cinematography?I like his films in the same way that I like thinking about them as living paintings rather than a source of entertainment like everyone else seems to. No, I really don't mind the endless amount of grass shots in TRL, hay shots in Days of Heaven or village shots in The New World. Why did Mozart use all those extra notes? He could've wrapped up the story succinctly in half the time![Edited on January 21, 2007 at 11:55 PM. Reason : I cannot type.]
1/21/2007 11:42:59 PM
easily one of my top 5 favorite movies
1/22/2007 12:59:10 AM
^^ once again, somebody intimidated by the director into saying that the movie is artful
1/22/2007 7:42:33 AM
Absolutely loathed it. About 45 minutes in, I gave up on it and went to sleep.
1/22/2007 7:56:03 AM
^^i had no idea who terrence malick was when i saw this movie in high school in the theater and loved it. the cinematography was great. the score was outstanding. and it's a good movie to sit and ponder. i know these sorts of movies aren't for everyone. but to claim that just because you dislike a movie that the only reason someone ever would is through peer pressure or something is ridiculous.[Edited on January 22, 2007 at 8:23 AM. Reason : i mean any war movie that has "the unanswered question" by ives in the score is good in my book]
1/22/2007 8:21:57 AM
kinda like saying the only reason someone wouldnt like it is cuz they are shallow or have a short attention span.
1/22/2007 10:55:00 AM
1/22/2007 11:09:01 AM
If you liked this, I would also recommend Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter...and Spring. If you didn't like this, I would recommend Weekend At Bernie's II.
1/22/2007 11:26:13 AM
A GENE PICK!!!
1/22/2007 12:48:34 PM
I was bored the first time I saw it. I was expecting something more like SPR. However, when I saw it a second time i realized how great it was.
1/22/2007 1:35:32 PM
^ exactly.
