^ structural EI ... close enough
1/20/2007 4:29:05 PM
ok slut let me tell you about our foundation. it's fucking fine so shut the fuck up. the inspector told us that we didn't need a footing inspection. he thought we had a free standing storage building. why we would build a 1000+ sq. ft. building on concrete blocks makes no sense. so, we need a SE to come look at our foundation, go yup, that looks good, and sign off on it so we can have our framing inspection. that's why we need a Structural Engineer. We built it right, not half-assed. We just need someone with a degree to check it out and say, yup, looks good. sign X now. since you were so helpful before, do you know any structural engineers that would come check out our foundation so we can get a roof on the garage? that would be awesome

A structural engineer is going to inspect it to cover his ass.
1/20/2007 7:41:40 PM
That's fine if he inspects it. They just need a signature to continue. If they have to fix it or whatever, then that's what they'll have to do.It's not like it's built to ghetto standards (quite the contrary; it's been done well) and they are trying to slip in under the wire. They're trying to stay legit here.
1/20/2007 7:50:24 PM
it's pretty much a pain in the ass is what it is. if the inspector would have actually used his brain and asked if it had a poured footing this wouldn't be a problem at all.
1/20/2007 8:18:12 PM
that sucks man.
1/20/2007 9:00:35 PM
^tell me about it. the best quote we've gotten so far is 300 bux.
1/20/2007 9:09:42 PM
damn... i'd stamp ya if i could but i can't
1/20/2007 9:35:56 PM
try Tuite. dunno if he has his stamp yet or not, he was saying something about it a while back. i don't think so though, seems a remember him saying something about you have to be in the industry for 5 years??[Edited on January 20, 2007 at 10:47 PM. Reason : .]

Ivan...it's four years of documented work experience. And then you gotta pass the PE exam in your field.Nick graduated in Fall '03, so he's got a little more to go, I think.

^^whatever. you can't say you don't act like a fucking douche on here yourself. any retaliation you get is deserved. besides, how hard is to miss the pages long thread of their build that has a description and pictures of the thing?have you tried fighting the inspections department about this? go over his head if you have to. that's the only way we get results for alot of our inspections.

Okay look. Jeepman is obviously frustrated, pissed, and at his wits end. slut's original comment would have set me off too if I was in that state. So how bout Jeepman you apologize for getting pissy at someone trying to help you right here in this thread and I bet slut might be willing to help ya. No sense in getting angry at people here.[Edited on January 25, 2007 at 7:38 AM. Reason : !]

i'm gettin kinda pissed too at all the armchair quarterbacks in this thread that know nothing about construction talking shit, after a while everyones comments get to be offensivethe footing is 28'x36' 8" deep by 20" wide concrete with two 1/2" rebar in the center set 12" deep at the highest spot, 22" deep at the lowest, since the garage is on a grade, 24" cinderblock foundation backfilled with 12" compacted fill dirt on the low side tapering off to 0", with 4" compacted gravel on top of that with 4" fiber reinforced concrete slab poured inside with reinforcing wire, 1/2"x8" j bolts set into the blocks every 48" with concrete[Edited on January 25, 2007 at 10:12 AM. Reason : pics are in the thread during every point of it]

fwiw, you probably need a licensed professional engineer to seal & sign it...structural EI won't cut it.i know a guy, but you will have to pay.. dunno how much, but pm me if you want his contact information.

After y'all get that roof up you'll probably be on a roll and wishing you could just keep laying shingles forever. When you get to that point come on over and I'll put you to work replacing the shingles over my sunroom.
1/25/2007 1:59:36 PM
ahahaha. we have siding to do after shingles
1/25/2007 2:01:28 PM
Siding shouldn't be bad. I've got to replace a couple of sheets of T-111 on my house sometime soon. What kind of siding are you doing?
1/25/2007 5:04:24 PM
better get that thing shingled before it starts getting warm again. nothing worse than laying shingles when it's hot. well, maybe asphalt work.
1/25/2007 5:27:14 PM
vinyl^ i know this. we laid all of the concrete blocks when it was hot as balls
