Denver Post:This text is from a county emergency manager out in the central part of Colorado after last weeks snowstorm.WEATHER BULLETINUp here, in the Northern Plains, we just recovered from a Historic event--- may I even say a "Weather Event" of "Biblical Proportions" --- with a historic blizzard of up to 44" inches of snow and winds to 90 MPH that broke trees in half, knocked down utility poles, stranded hundreds of motorists in lethal snow banks, closed ALL roads, isolated scores of communities and cut power to 10's of thousands. FYI:George Bush did not come.FEMA did nothing. No one howled for the government. No one blamed the government. No one even uttered an expletive on TV Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton did not visit. Our Mayor did not blame Bush or anyone else. Our Governor did not blame Bush or anyone else, either.CNN, ABC, CBS, FOX or NBC did not visit - or report on this category 5 snowstorm. Nobody demanded $2,000 debit cards. No one asked for a FEMA Trailer House. No one looted.Nobody - I mean Nobody demanded the government do something.Nobody expected the government to do anything, either. No Larry King, No Bill O'Rielly, No Oprah, No Chris Mathews and No Geraldo Rivera. No Shaun Penn, No Barbara Striesand, No Hollywood types to be found.Nope, we just melted the snow for water.Sent out caravans of SUV's to pluck people out of snow engulfed cars. The truck drivers pulled people out of snow banks and didn't ask for a penny. Local restaurants made food and the police and fire departments delivered it to the snowbound families.Families took in the stranded people - total strangers. We fired up wood stoves, broke out coal oil lanterns or Coleman lanterns. We put on extra layers of clothes because up here it is "Work or Die".We did not wait for some affirmative action government to get us out of a mess created by being immobilized by a welfare program that trades votes for 'sittin at home' checks. Even though a Category "5" blizzard of this scale has never fallen this early, we know it can happen and how to deal with it ourselves."In my many travels, I have noticed that once one gets north of about 48 degrees North Latitude, 90% of the world's social problems evaporate." It does seem that way, at least to me.Maybe SOME people will get the message. The world does Not owe you a living.

The situations are so similar, too.The way the snow destroyed out all those houses, and drowned all those people. Uncanny.
1/18/2007 12:17:17 AM
bush hates white people too

This storm was blamed on a number of deaths already. And it is threatening tens of thousands of head of livestock. My point is, the people of this region are helping themselves, rather than squealing for the government or lashing out saying people don't care about them. This didn't happen in New Orleans at all.
1/18/2007 12:26:54 AM
^^ I doubt that will happen.
1/18/2007 12:27:39 AM
hahahahNow he's talking about how farmers don't depend on the government. Billions in subsidies anyone?(btw, government helicopters are actually airlifting food to the livestock as we speak)[Edited on January 18, 2007 at 12:31 AM. Reason : .]

other than the fact that all your shit is just plain false? The government was "howled" for.Very few people, if any, have lost their homes because of this. As opposed to Katrina where half of a fucking city cant live in their homes, if those homes are even there. You cant loot if you cant leave your house. Thanks for trying though. You melted the snow? Congrats. Im sure that drinking water full of sewage, dead bodies and chemicals would have solved all of NO's problems. All those acts of charity and more happened during Katrina. Its not a matter of NO being full of better or worse people. More good things happened because more people were affected.I hope to see you terminated for this, but sadly, moderation on such topics is often lacking.
1/18/2007 12:32:46 AM
oh shut the fuckgoddamn you people whine alot, you're creating more of a ruckus in this thread because of your bitchinghow has he broken the rules here?[insert waaahmbulance pic here]The NO topic has been discussed and everyone knows that the local govt should have done more... in addition to a faster federal response
1/18/2007 12:39:53 AM
we dont like to count deaths if its the deaths of rich white peopleand we couldnt blame bush since it was cold weather and not global warming

im sorry, i guess this type of shit is acceptable. if that is so then im just gonna start posting random fucking shit that i find from michael moore every other day with no comment of my own.

It's acceptable so long as you received it via a chain email your grandmother send you. It's the TWW Grandmother Clause. Look it up.^ Just like we wouldn't be able to depend on fast food in times of crisis if it weren't for welfare[Edited on January 18, 2007 at 12:52 AM. Reason : .]

1/18/2007 12:52:19 AM
^^^^^wow what a big story...its on every news channel right now just like Katrina isnt it...oh no actually CNN is making fun of McCain by associating him with Bush as a commercial break of Larry King Live, Headline News is the Glenn Beck show with ZERO mention of the Denver snowstorms...even Fox News on Hannity and Colmes they arent mentioning the Denver storm...but thats Faux News and nothing they've ever had on tv was true[Edited on January 18, 2007 at 12:53 AM. Only an idiot would be moved by that (original post).
1/18/2007 12:55:12 AM
RevoltNow knows full well that its completely Bush's ineptness that caused all the bad things resulted from Katrina...Bush built the levees, Bush forgot to tell them that there was a huge hurricane in the gulf and that they should leave their home, and Bush didnt personally pump the water out of NO
1/18/2007 12:56:27 AM
Katrina killed 1800+ people. So CNN would technically be justified in giving Katrina 30 times the coverage as this Blizzard.
then why did they give 3,000 times the coverage?
1/18/2007 12:57:33 AM
lol, once againthe point was madebut you missed it completely because it doesn't pander to your beliefsif 1/30 of the people in NO had the desire to survive then there would have been less deaths and maybe less stupidity... so who is to blame for the gang violence and general lack of "act right" after katrina?or are some people not accountable for their actions?if life gives you lemons you don't sit and bitch because you wanted orange juice... some folks understand that, some don't[Edited on January 18, 2007 at 1:00 AM. 1/18/2007 12:59:43 AM
So in a 24-hour news day, CNN is giving this blizzard story less than 30 seconds of coverage?24 hours / 3000 (assuming Katrina took 100% of each day's coverage)^ So what percentage of the population acted a fool?[Edited on January 18, 2007 at 1:03 AM. Reason : .]
1/18/2007 1:01:47 AM
down there, quite a bitit was bad enough that the government went door to door disarming people
1/18/2007 1:05:16 AM
^^have you heard of one single person blaming Bush?or maybe a rapper saying George Bush hates white people?
1/18/2007 1:07:55 AM
OMG your opinion is different from mine, you should be terminated.Where's the moderator?
1/18/2007 1:08:40 AM
Well that's because of a competent government reaction, not the character of the people.Even if the reaction had been as terrible as it was in NO, this is the reddest area of America. Bush could've carpet bombed them and they wouldn't have said anything.
1/18/2007 1:11:04 AM
tim mcgraw will be holding a relief concert and garth brooks will say that george bush hates white people^ change the subject back to what you know best, telling us how stupid the people that voted for bush arethey may be dumb, but at least they are surviving, for the most part, a bad storm[Edited on January 18, 2007 at 1:13 AM. 1/18/2007 1:12:06 AM
Let's keep a running comparison between the two storms. We'll update it as time goes byKatrina:1800 dead700 missing$25 billion in damage2007 Blizzard:60 deadXX missing$XX in damage
1/18/2007 1:20:54 AM
avoiding the point still
1/18/2007 1:21:45 AM
You're stating that this is a good comparison to NO. It isn't. You have no idea how these people would react in a situation like Katrina.
1/18/2007 1:27:06 AM
an not one Colorado citizen took pot shots at US Army helicopters!
1/18/2007 1:28:13 AM
1/18/2007 1:31:58 AM
Awww, but I thought this was a chance to take subtle pop-shots at black people
1/18/2007 1:34:52 AM
^Subtle?!? LOL
1/18/2007 1:35:17 AM

even though katrina caused a lot more death and damage, they're still both natural disasters...read that, NATURAL disasters...as in its natural and people cant do anything about it except try to get away from it
1/18/2007 1:40:26 AM
And what difference does it make if one NATURAL disaster kills 1800, and another kills 60.It's the same exact thing.
1/18/2007 1:42:03 AM
I never said they are the sameI'm saying some people are more self sufficient than othersboth are shitty situations to be inand most people would have a better chance at surving a snowstorm than a flood, doesn't mean "well this sucks, I'm gonna stay right here and bitch instead of survive"
1/18/2007 1:48:07 AM
How do you know they're more self-sufficient?Have they been tested by a natural disaster like Katrina? Is there any possible way of knowing unless they are?
1/18/2007 1:55:40 AM
it's not a hidden fact that farmers and ranchers are a bit more self sufficient when it comes to survival in harsh conditionsif they were that sufficient down there they probably would have not lived their in the first placecall me an ass, or whatever, it's just the facts
1/18/2007 2:00:31 AM
1/18/2007 2:05:13 AM
no, they had a right to bitch for sure, but the bitching should have started at the local level, where the problem began before the storm... but thats been discussed plenty
1/18/2007 2:07:46 AM
I never knew cattle-ranchers were so well-adapted to drowning in sewage.
1/18/2007 2:08:00 AM
have you ever been on a farm when it's pouring rain!!!
1/18/2007 2:10:29 AM

Katrina was a man-made disaster. Had FEMA acted the way it has in the snow storm, namely doing nothing, everything would have worked out better. Sure, people would have still died, but the suffering and the dislocation would have been over sooner. http://www.reason.com/search/?terms=Katrina&submit=Go
