I know a parent who wants to keep an eye on her (young)kids internet usage. She knows blocking doesn't work well so she just wants to be able to monitor what sites they visit and for how long etc.I was thinking something like: http://tinyurl.com/32wnf5 might work...but was curious if you people have used anything that works well.

i had a keylogging program that i limewired that recorded all keystrokes, all im conversations (not only what is typed, but what the other person says too), and took screenshots however frequently you wanted (every 30sec or so, or every 5 min, etc) Might have done other stuff too, and was invisible. Fun program. Can't remember name though...

STARR was the name of one of the best log tools i have seen, it can record the logs locally, and even zip, password protect, and email off the logs to you. It even captures incoming stuff on chat/instant message windows.

I'd suggest increased communications and "better" sense of parenting.Otherwise, is she just looking to monitor website surfing, or AIM chatting, or IRC, or what? There are a million things she could want to monitor, which are the most meaningful? A keylogger won't catch everything, like a series of mouse clicks.

keylogging can be a part of it, but i think all she wants to know is what sites her kids are visiting

I suggest active parenting over big brother software.... of course, my kids will get all sorts of spied on.

if you keylog your kids you should be shot in the face

I think that kind of spying is the type of thing that inspires life-long hate for one's parents.

Routers can log webaddresses depending on model. It's fairly simple. If her router doesnt support it, no idea.

^ i'll check the router but i dont think it supports it.that program i linked to in the first post screwed up the networking...any other software you guys can think of?
