it's damn cold up here and apparently the cord for block heaters on Fords is only supplied to dealers in like 3 or 4 states

you don't need a block heater unless its below 0 anyway.

umm yeah, it went well belowplus I couldn't find anything with higher cetane than 40... apparently you can get 45 but it's above the border[Edited on January 17, 2007 at 5:22 PM. Reason : ..]

unfortunately, on the powerstrokes you do. i don't know about his 6.0, but my 7.3 and the other one in the company get kinda hard starting below 25 or so. i usually just plug mine in all winter for the luxery of quick heat.that sounds odd about the cords, where'd you get that info?[Edited on January 17, 2007 at 5:24 PM. Reason : btw where you at?]
1/17/2007 5:23:39 PM
where u at?
1/17/2007 5:24:38 PM
thedieselstop had it in a threadapparently mine has the plug in, but doesn't come with the actual cord that you plug intoI'm north of burlington VT, I had no clue just how cold it was until it dropped to like -8 or -9 last nightit's crazy, they put so much salt out that the roads are still "wet" at that temp[Edited on January 17, 2007 at 5:26 PM. Reason : near lake champlain, it's awesome here though]

Power Services Diesel Fuel treatment is the deal. I go thru a 96 oz jug every 2 or 3 months.I remember about 20 years ago Amoco marketed 50 cetane diesel in this area. Funny, huh?
1/17/2007 5:50:32 PM
ah. if it came from there, most likely legit info. penny pinching i guess. you'd think when you pay that much for a truck, you'd at least get the cord.
1/17/2007 5:52:22 PM
yeah no shit... crazy huhI dumped a bottle of the anti-gell stuff in along with a fresh tank of fueltruck didn't want to start yesterday afternoon after sitting for only 3 or so hours, so I left it running since the temp was dropping still[Edited on January 17, 2007 at 6:04 PM. Reason : cold]
1/17/2007 6:02:48 PM
haha damn its fucking cold up there. to hell with that shit.
1/17/2007 6:14:25 PM
Do trucks like that have a way to leave it running, but not be driveable?
1/17/2007 6:18:54 PM
yeah it's called "the club"
1/17/2007 6:20:44 PM
nah, not that I know of.... ford has an AIC unit that people use on cold climate diesels in alaska they run their trucks 24/7 for weeks at a time and never cut them offcut your rpm down really low on the AIC and let ot idle all nightI had the alarm on and the doors locked and had the truck parked by my hotel room(people don't steal up here like back home)[Edited on January 17, 2007 at 6:23 PM. Reason : the -1 pic was taken on the way to the bar at like 10 last night, saw it get as low as -3]
1/17/2007 6:21:38 PM
Alarm + Door locks sounds sufficient. Even better if it kills the ignition if the alarm goes off. I didn't know if diesels had something equivalent to a turbo timer or the remote start mechanism to allow it to run without the key and then require the user to put the key in before putting it in drive.[Edited on January 17, 2007 at 6:25 PM. 1/17/2007 11:29:21 PM
get you one of those universal oil pan type heaters for now, it'll keep it warm enough
1/17/2007 11:51:07 PM
I think it will be ok for nowit's going to warm up to more "normal" temps the remainder of my trip
