Me and about 4 other girls want to go to VA Beach sometime in April or May. Does anyone know when the best time is to visit there? None of us have been there. Also, where are the hot spots and best places to stay?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Are there not any hot spots (bars, clubs, etc.)?

We aren't looking for a place that is full of teener boppers that can stay out till 11 (like Mrytle Beach)...just a good college atmosphere kind of place. Chose VA Beach because of locations everyone is coming from.

don't go...seriously...it fucking sucks there

the beach is trash, the bars and clubs by the beach are trash for the most part. too much 18 and up out there with wannabe gangsta's cruising the strip in their geo's sittin on dubs

if you do go for some godforsaken reason, go to gent, norfolk, or the bay side of the va beach area (duck inn, etc)

i lived there for 2 1/2 years and will never, ever go back nor would i ever wish that on anyone else

are you planning on going to the beach at all? the water will be freezing until about june. Yeah the strip is pretty lame. Alot of the clubs are 18 and up and the city gov has made it a family friendly place so the college atmosphere is definitely not there.

Like the guy above said...check out downtown norfolk or the bay area. Thats your best chance.

Really though the whole area is not what you are looking for.

So, with that said...what do you suggest? We got one girl in Charlotte, Lexington, Boone, Wilmington, Washington DC, and myself in Raleigh.

We are trying to mainly accomodate the DC girl...just because its part her bachelorette trip (mine as well).

i'd say chip in, buy the girl from DC a ticket to fly and head down to charleston or points south

while there are colleges in the va beach area, it is overwhelmed by military...no matter where you go, you will have drunk ass sailors and marines bugging the shit out of you

*the STRIP is trash

Go to luna sea, harpoon larry's, crocs, or offshore

I'm partial to offshore and luna sea

there's nothing wrong with crocs but harpoon larry's is a bit of a dive(which is funny since all i see in front of that place are 7 series)

if you feel like actually doing something while you're combating your hangover i suggest the virginia marine science museum. They just did a huge overhaul and it's pretty decent looking.

oh, if your friend is coming down from DC, she's gonna have to leave about 4 hours ahead of the rest of you just to get over the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel in late april through September.

i never understood all the hate for virginia beach, i might have some bias but it's not a bad area.

if you're looking for reasons to hate it you'll have a lot to hate but if you're looking for reasons to love the area you'll have a lot to look forward to.

It isn't the official Bachelorette party just time for us to all hang out that are in the weddings. I'm going to have myself a bachelorette party in Raleigh during the month of July.

The girl in DC is the one that suggested Ocean City because her brother use to go alot.

ocean city vs. va beach

tough call...

what are you guys looking to do? just get hammered and stumble around drunk? visit historical/cultural landmarks? go to a theatre? go to a trendy coffee shop area?

it all depends on the stuff you like to do. if you just wanna get shitfaced, i'd go to ocean city... va beach has public cursing laws that are enforced, and is overall not drunk-friendly, even though there's plenty of places to drink...

We are looking for a place that has nice beaches, nice nightlife (that isn't too horrible young), nice hotels (not concerned with price) and a good shopping.

I know that in NC you can't carry an open container on the street. How does that work in VA and in MD? I know that part of enjoying Key West so much was the fact we didn't have to just drink in the crowded clubs - we could hit up their specials and walk outside and chill.

Also for the nightlife I do not like to stay at one place all night...like to drift from bar to bar (unless find one we really like).

CHANGE IN DATE - April 26th - 29th

My matron of honor (bridesmaid in other wedding as well) can't go because her husband is coming home from Korea for 14 days starting the 3rd. This will be their first year spending their anniversary together since they been married (its 4th I think).

Would April 26-29th still work good?

hey its not that bad. I lived there all my life so i guess you have to live there to enjoy it. But its definitely not what you are looking for (college atmosphere).

We are going to Ocean City, Maryland - went away from VA Beach when we saw that it wasn't a college atmosphere. Yes, we know it is cold but we aren't too concerned with the water temp. We all want to go somewhere we haven't been and not have to pay an arm and a leg to go. I would love to go south but I've been most places as have my friends.

Thank you for all the wonderful advice and tips. Any advice for where to stay in Ocean City?

I live there. Its pretty cool. I go downtown norfolk alot, and there is plenty of bars where you can just relax and drink. You also have the clubs where you can throwdown also. While i havent personally gone to it, my boys said peabody's in VABeach is pretty hot club. have fun.

You should check out Savannah, GA. No open container law and the drive to the beach (Tybee Island) is only about 30min. I was there in April the last two years and had a great experience. The night life is lively and definitely a college type atmosphere (The bars are open until 4 AM). The beach at Tybee Island was also gets very crowded even during mid April.
