You'll want to see this one. The story of Idi Amin is absolutely brutal. He killed at least 300,000 of his own citizens in the 1970's (Amnesty International claims it's closer to 500,000 for what it's worth). His official title was "His Excellency President for Life, Field Marshal Al Hadji Doctor Idi Amin, VC, DSO, MC, Lord of All the Beasts of the Earth and Fishes of the Sea, and Conqueror of the British Empire in Africa in General and Uganda in Particular." So, yeah, he was a fucking nutjob."The Last King of Scotland is a parable shocking in its truth, jolting in its lack of sentimentality, Shakespearean in its vision of the doctor's catastrophic flaw."-- Kyle Smith, New York PostIt's got an 8.0 on IMDB and a whopping 89% positive rating on RottenTomatoes. Whitaker's most likely going to get an Oscar nom for this one. Check it out.As federal said, it's opening this Friday at Galaxy Cinema in Cary. Showtimes are 1:20, 4:10, 7:05, and 9:35. Come see it!

1/23/2007 1:51:12 AM
This movie made me feel awful. I just have a terrible nagging guilt trip about existing in a world where these things happen. It was, of course, well acted and well filmed. Forest deserves that Oscar.
