Quit wasting scholarships on 1 star running backs no one wants and 1 star punters no one wants.I also enjoy going in an stealing recruits from such great schools as Akron, Ohio, and Eastern Michigan.

Dear Tom B'BrienPlease continue
1/15/2007 6:30:26 PM
so you are going to use what is called a statistical outlier to defend going after a 1 star punter and a one star running back?
1/15/2007 6:31:12 PM
1 star Punter who averages over 40 yards a kick is fine with meLet's not forget that while Amato may have recruited better than TOB, TOB still averaged 8-9 wins a year with "less" talent. Plus, it is kind of hard to sign a 4-5 star player this late in the process with a coaching change. TOB's recruiting will be fine.
1/15/2007 6:32:43 PM
so i guess recruiting has gone down already?what commits did we already have before o'brien?[Edited on January 15, 2007 at 6:33 PM. Reason : .]
1/15/2007 6:32:51 PM
yes I am using outliers to defend my point<big sized font> THAT'S THE WHOLE FUCKING POINT HALF-BRAIN</big sized font>
1/15/2007 6:33:51 PM
I'd say that keeping all commitments solid through a coaching change is pretty damn good. His first order of business was keeping guys like Dominique Ellis, Desmond Roberts, Russell Wilson, etc solid then targeting prospects.
1/15/2007 6:34:07 PM
we already have a junior and freshman punter and 3 kickers who all have expirence punting. Why waste a scholarship on a punter when we have that set?
1/15/2007 6:35:45 PM
someone remind me of P. Riv's high school ranking....
1/15/2007 6:35:53 PM
^ I thought about putting priv down there as well.50% of recruiting is finding statistical outliers you fucking moron. if you can't understand why finding them in recruiting is important ... I feel sorry for you.[Edited on January 15, 2007 at 6:40 PM. Reason : /]
1/15/2007 6:36:58 PM
can we have more statistical outliers? Sure people do well in college after bombing their SATs, but the reason why they are so highly rated and required is because they are a gauge for how well you'll do in the future.
1/15/2007 6:37:32 PM
to be fair the * running back was 2nd team all-NY and showed interest in umd, msu, ohio state, 'cuse, and wvu, fwiw[Edited on January 15, 2007 at 6:38 PM. Reason : if you're talking about Curtis Underwood]
1/15/2007 6:37:56 PM
I'm talking about Curtis Underwood. But showing interest in a school is not the same as a school showing interest in you. With the gaps our team currently has and the limited number of scholarships, there is no reason to sign a punter.
1/15/2007 6:40:44 PM
Hmmm... On our roster we will have 3 place kickers... ZERO with experience. (Czaikowski, Franklin, Pierson)Listed, we have one punter. A senior I have never heard of so I am sure he's a walk-on. I imagine JC, NF or BP will handle punting as well. But again, they have no experience. I believe JC and NF are punters and BP is strictly a PK. Bringing in a prep school punter with pretty damn good stats isn't a bad idea. After TOB ended up with a walk-on kicker this year, I'm sure he doesn't want to get stuck in that position again. Depth is a plus, at all positions. Sure, the walk-on made a game winner in the bowl game... but still... Depth is good. And about Underwood... Schools expressed interest in him but had not yet extended offer's. So what? I believe I read somewhere that the schools listed above expressed interest in him, including some schools that had RB's who were on the fence or staying/leaving. I think Michigan was one school who was close to offering but held off since Hart stayed.[Edited on January 15, 2007 at 6:42 PM. Reason : 12222222]
1/15/2007 6:41:06 PM
omg, this shit starts already??? WTF, some people(most actually) that follow NC State sports are fucking idiots.
1/15/2007 6:41:11 PM
i agree the rankings don't mean too muchjust in 2002, we brought in 17 1-star prospects.. most notable, Manny Lawson, John McCargo, Brian Clark, TJ Williams, Oliver Hoyte, Jon Holt, Lamart Barrett, James Newby, Garland Heath, and Leroy Harris
1/15/2007 6:42:43 PM
^^^We have a red shirt freshman punter and a junior punter on the team. In terms of kickers will punting experience I was talking about when they played in high school. Of course a redshirt freshman won't have experience on this level. Neither will a JuCo punter from California.[Edited on January 15, 2007 at 6:43 PM. Reason : ^from out home state where we had a better chance of evaluating their talent.]
1/15/2007 6:43:05 PM
^That's 5-6 NFL players who were former "unheard" of prospects.
1/15/2007 6:43:29 PM
all of them are silly non-star system conformists, and thus should be shunned from major college football. With Love, nutcancr
1/15/2007 6:43:45 PM
Who is the JR Punter on our team?
1/15/2007 6:44:21 PM
1/15/2007 6:44:51 PM
both of those punters are walk-ons you dumb shit. Why do u think deraney has been doing ALL of our kicking here lately?? This punter we're bringing in has been kicking the SHIT outta the ball lately. Do you read or do you just look at stars???Also, the running back we're bringing in is 6'0 210 with 4.5 speed. He was getting visits from schools such as Penn State, Michigan, Maryland etc. TOB has been on him since the get goGet a dick outta your ass and pay attention man
1/15/2007 6:45:02 PM
1/15/2007 6:46:08 PM
wow, 4.5 speed. We need linebackers and safeties. Not punters and not running backs. 2 schollies left, where can we waste these?
1/15/2007 6:46:31 PM
mcrae is listed as a senior on the latest roster. dont know him but i do know if he's a junior or senior then he hasn't seen the field the last few years.
1/15/2007 6:46:46 PM
you say that as if 4.5 was slow...
1/15/2007 6:47:40 PM
dont need RB's??? u do know TB and AB are juniors right? A breakout year for them and we're left with jamelle Eugene and?????And we do need a punter.......we just lost our kicking game for the past three years.
1/15/2007 6:47:49 PM
why should he have? We had a kicker who before this season was on the shortlist for the Ray Guy award.
1/15/2007 6:48:06 PM
Guys this guy has hated TOB before we even hired him.Remember this is the guy who said if we hire TOB he is quitting the Wolfpack Club.Shut up already.
1/15/2007 6:50:50 PM
4.5 is in no stretch of the imagination slow for anyone who's not a wr or dbdont be a moron.
1/15/2007 6:51:21 PM
for a 210 running back, 4.5 is slow.
1/15/2007 6:53:58 PM
nutcancr is probably an expert on how to run a football program. someone get this thread to tom o'brien asap!
1/15/2007 6:54:01 PM
the classic logical fallacy fest is about to begin.
1/15/2007 6:54:28 PM
who gives a shit if it's a fallacy, you're still a dumbass.
1/15/2007 6:56:19 PM
are you fucking kidding me ? get out of here.
1/15/2007 6:56:45 PM
I don't use logical fallacies and I see what this team needs. It needs linebackers and safeties. We have 2 scholarships left and we'll probably end up giving one to a one star kicker from boleschevik no name land.
1/15/2007 6:57:12 PM
The RS Jr punter is Bradley Pierson not Johnathon Macrae
1/15/2007 6:57:13 PM
Pierson is a kicker.
1/15/2007 6:57:55 PM
Ok still neither of them are scholarship so what do they matter?
1/15/2007 6:58:45 PM
Just about every player in the NFL for Chuck Amato was a 3-star or less....I don't think I can think of a highly rated oneEdit: And I think Nutcanr might be oddly related to nutsmakr.... and maybe even nutpunchr, nutcrakr, and nutlikr[Edited on January 15, 2007 at 7:00 PM. Reason : ]

While there is a strong correlation between recruiting rankings and college performance, I'll judge O'Brien's recruits by how they perform on the field. Also, the schools that offer a recruit are a much better indicator than any ranking.[Edited on January 15, 2007 at 7:05 PM. Reason : .]
1/15/2007 6:59:41 PM
^^Mario was a 4-Star recruit.
1/15/2007 7:00:02 PM
^ Correct you are... good callany others?
1/15/2007 7:00:40 PM
^^This is the year where a lot of the bigger names will be starting to enter the draft

1/15/2007 7:02:21 PM
Pressley was highly recruited... he'll be a pro next year. Tank was a 3 star player IIRC
1/15/2007 7:06:21 PM
im done with this guy. hes too much of an idiot for me to waste more time on
1/15/2007 7:06:46 PM
I think someone's just fucking with us. Nutcanr? Sounds alot like nutsmakr (And I don't know if it is nutsmakr, but that name is too random to make it up)
1/15/2007 7:07:42 PM
Tank Tyler (3/4 star), A.J. Davis, John Deraney.we're pretty much in the begining of the chuck's good recruiting classes getting to be juniors and seniors.let's just have a team of 1 and two stars because we love statistical outliers.[Edited on January 15, 2007 at 7:08 PM. Reason : .]
