First, I want a .45 Springfield XD in the 4" model.I also want either a 30-06 or maybe a .308 rifle. Anyone know of any good deals on any of these? I'm not particular to a certain model/brand...
1/14/2007 1:41:12 PM
check Lawmen's. I was there about a month ago and they had good prices on springfield.
1/14/2007 6:10:12 PM
Skip the springfield. I have heard of too many customers @ Personal Defense complaining about jamming/misfeeding. Personal Defense has a few used ones if that is the route you want to go. You can also rent one before buying it down there also. I was there today and saw some used 30-06 and .308 rifles for sale. I dont know much about rifles so it would probally be best to go talk to them. Lawmans is only 2 mins away from Personal Defense so go check them both out before you make a decesion Personally I love my Sig p220 .45http://www.pdhsc.com/[Edited on January 14, 2007 at 6:49 PM. ^interesting. i absolutely love the XD subcompact 40. everything i've read on the message boards people say they love them and aren't having any issues with them.
1/14/2007 6:54:31 PM
Ive had 3 different XDs jam on me while at Personal Defense's range. If i had the money, i'd take a p226
1/14/2007 7:20:04 PM
keep in mind, you've got the gun show coming to Raleigh next weekend.are those XD jams limited to the .45 or are they all around? i had heard good things about them before
1/14/2007 7:29:22 PM
i have a springfield 1911 ultra compact.damn nice gun.the factory clip works flawless, but i have another "colt" clip which jams once in a white, and a "shooting star" 10 round clip, which is guaranteed or your money back not to jam, it jams.. so ill be sending it back.

How are the prices at the gun show compared to local shops? Are they flexible if you bring cash? I'm looking to pick up a Taurus 24/7 9mm in stainless. I've read some good reviews about it. Anyone have personal experience with the 24/7 series?
1/14/2007 8:27:32 PM
I've put about 400 rounds through a .45 XD and didnt have a single problem. I'll do some more research on this though...I've already checked out Lawmens...just wondering if anyone knew of any particularly good deals.
1/14/2007 9:01:40 PM
sig= awesome
1/14/2007 9:02:59 PM
Ive put 2000 rounds through my Sig P220 .45 without a failure. Ive put 700 through my Sig P239 chambered in .357sig without a failure. My Sig Mosquito 22LR is a whole nother story though. Its headed back to the factory for some free adjustments [Edited on January 14, 2007 at 9:11 PM. Reason : h]

whats the best gun in the $300 range
1/14/2007 9:12:03 PM
Depends what you are looking for. Semi auto or revolver? In that price range there are alot of good used guns. Hit up the local gunshops and see what fit you the best. Its best to let the gun pick you instead of getting something because of price, looks ect,ect
1/14/2007 9:20:12 PM
semi auto, and i plan on trying them out. but i cant get a feel for reliability with just a few rounds.
1/14/2007 9:54:58 PM
Yeah a few word of mouth stories from the same shooting range is not a good sample to compare a gun on. There could be other circumstances that lead to jamming such as third party clips or weak springs that cannot push the next round up quite fast enough, which might become a problem with rental guns and clips that have so many rounds put through them. Again, it could be true, but somehow I think if there was a major problem like that the XD would not have been selected as the the 'NRA Handgun of the Year' for 2003.
1/14/2007 10:49:48 PM
the best gun is the gun that you like.its like asking us to look for a car for you

I'm not trying to hijack but I was in the process of looking for a handgun myself. I rounded it down to either the Ruger 9 mm P series or the Glock 17 or 19. Good choice?
1/16/2007 3:47:41 PM
Anyone going to the show this weekend? I haven't been in a year or more and wondered if it's any better or still like a flea market. It used to be a high admission price for few bargains.
1/16/2007 4:05:40 PM
^^ i don't like ruger autos the revolvers are good tho
1/16/2007 4:12:12 PM
1. PDHSC is a Springfield dealer, and they are good folk.2. Are you looking for a hunting rifle or something for shooting up targets/plinking? For hunting, PDHSC regularly has used .308s and .30-06s (and .270s and .243s, although not as many) around with scopes and all, for pretty cheap. For just blowing shit up, get a Spanish FR-8 carbine and don't look back. Or look into a CETME.^^I think I'm going. If you know more or less what stuff should cost, there's lots of stuff there at reasonable prices. I think of it as a giant-ass gunshop, rather than some kind of discount mart. Beware assholes trying to sell stuff for +$200 markups, though. (More of a milsurp issue, so you might not be affected.)[Edited on January 16, 2007 at 4:16 PM. Reason : .]

Glocks are double action only which takes away some of the advantage of being an auto IMO
1/16/2007 5:25:16 PM
my favorite handgun- HK P7 M8. its probably a little out of most peoples price range, but a hella nice gun. from draw its the fastest ready to shoot gun, and also most accurate out of the box handgun ever made. if you're getting a gun, get the best.
1/16/2007 5:31:02 PM
i sold a P7M13 to a guy at the last show, it was a pretty good gun i had just rather have a diff gun and cash. altho i almost had this guy trade me a hk socom i think it's the mk 23 it was bad ass but he changed his mind
1/16/2007 5:59:54 PM
^^ they say glocks are DA but they act more like SA.
1/16/2007 6:17:09 PM
agreed
1/18/2007 9:08:00 PM
CANS!
1/18/2007 10:21:24 PM
glocks aren't really SA or DA; they fall somewhere in between.
1/18/2007 10:37:04 PM
I think I'd like to go to the show too, however I'm fairly new to purchasing guns and was wondering some things.
1/19/2007 1:54:08 PM
what the hell are you going to do with a .308? that is a massive round.
1/19/2007 2:13:04 PM
where can I get a good deal on a Glock 22 or a Ruger 10/22?
1/19/2007 2:17:47 PM
I've put hundreds of rounds each through my XD .45 4" and my XD .40 3" and never had a single jam...course if you're using a range's gun you have to expect them to get abusedTheres a reason the XD won the NRA handgun of the year in 03 and its not because they jam all the timeI paid around $550 for each I thnk
1/19/2007 2:31:57 PM
^^^ .50 BMG is a massive round.375 H&H is pretty heavy duty .308 Win is really middle of the road
1/19/2007 4:04:56 PM
try convincing a cape buffalo that a .308 is a huge round haha
1/19/2007 4:14:21 PM
about the Taurus:
1/19/2007 4:40:24 PM
its a bump at the bottom of the grip safety that gives you a reference on where your hand is, so your presentation is the same every time without having to re grip the pistol. and it helps to disengage the GS while its in your hand for people who have problems with that.
1/19/2007 11:38:12 PM
I heard they have an f2000 for sale at pds
1/20/2007 12:08:10 AM
1/20/2007 12:09:29 AM
Psh, you need a .50 to hunt deer!

anyone have any recommendations for a hammerless lightweight wheel gun for pocket carry? Specifically: 1) .357 Mag vs. .38 Spcl 2) Taurus v S&W v Ruger v (insert your suggestion here)3) Likes or dislikes with CTC grips (which I'm leaning towards anyway for this kind of gun)
1/23/2007 8:15:31 AM
Can't go wrong with a hammerless S&W Model 60 (.38 SP) with some nice rubber Pacmeyer grips
1/23/2007 10:19:25 AM
I am not a fan of lasers. Waste of money. They just make you an easy target at night. [Edited on January 23, 2007 at 10:50 AM. Reason : :]

They also intimidate and could alleviate a confrontation based on that
